The three most important things a tutor can do for a student are providing personalized support, fostering a growth mindset, and promoting effective study habits. Firstly, personalized support tailors lessons to the student's specific needs, addressing their weaknesses and enhancing their strengths. Secondly, instilling a growth mindset encourages…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is provide a learning environment free from both the rigid structure and inherent judgement present in centres of mass education. A calmer, more personal environment allows the establishment of time tables and study plans more conducive to the individual student. There is also…

I think one of the most improtant things is to be a good listener and have a good understanding with your student so that he/she can freely ask questions or share any problems they are facing. Being honest with the student also plays a very important role as they can know you cant alwyas be perfect and its okay to make mistakes! I can assess the…

The tutor must be patient and approachable. He/she should make sure that the student should be able to understand the lesson and perform well in class. I am patient and kind. I prepare my own materials for the lessons. I also make mock up quizzes and exams. I am creative in making them understand the lesson like relating the subject to the normal…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I really try to celebrate the small wins — whether they’ve just understood a tough concept or even…

A tutor should not only improve grades but also equip them with skills and strategies they can apply beyond the tutoring sessions. One of my key strengths is patience. Build their confidence as much as their knowledge because a lot of students struggle not because they are incapable, but because they are convinced themselves they can’t do it. Beyond that, I think it’s important to teach a student how to think through a problem rather than just giving them the answer. The goal is to make them capable enough…

Finding a love for the subject that they are learning, making them eager to learn rather than feeling forced. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not just teach them their lessons - but also teach them better study habits. This will ensure that the students may learn to study on their own without the help of a tutor all the time, and that they may be able to grow as an individual prepared for bigger challenges (such as uni,…

I believe empowerment is one single most important aspects a tutor can bring to a student's live. Efficient, personalised and great value. We had an awesome experience in 2022 and EzyMath have come to the party again this year with an equally good tutor!
Simon Rudd, Leichhardt

Inside LeichhardtTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Zoe focused on two-digit multiplication and basic short division, then practised converting improper fractions to mixed numerals and adding fractions with the same denominators.

In Year 7, Ethan worked through solving one- and two-step linear equations and revised Pythagoras' theorem using right-angled triangle problems.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lara strengthened her understanding of laws of indices by tackling index notation questions and reviewed fundamental trigonometry concepts including sine, cosine, and tangent ratios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Mathematics, one student's work on plotting coordinates was "a bit messy," making it harder to identify errors and slowing down corrections during lessons.

A Year 10 learner preparing for trigonometry assessments struggled to remember the SOH CAH TOA rule without written notes—she relied on prompts instead of independent recall.

Meanwhile, in a Year 6 session, confusion converting between square centimetres and square metres persisted; repeated mistakes were not always revisited, so misconceptions lingered into revision tasks.

During primary times tables review, incomplete daily practice meant non-calculator sections remained stressful rather than automatic.

Recent Achievements

A Leichhardt tutor noticed Makayla, a high school student, has started to independently identify which trigonometric ratio (sine, cosine, or tangent) to use—something she previously hesitated with unless prompted.

In another session, Hermione (Year 9) made a clear shift by slowing down and working more neatly after earlier lessons flagged her tendency for rushed errors; this time she completed all sums correctly without careless mistakes.

Meanwhile, Maya in Year 5 showed new persistence by tackling tricky multiplication problems on her own and only asking for hints when truly stuck, finishing an entire worksheet with minimal guidance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Inner West Council Library and History Leichhardt Branch—or at your child's school (with permission), like Leichhardt Public School.
