The most important thing I can do as a tutor is create a comfortable, judgment-free space where students feel confident asking any question. When they feel supported, their understanding, results, and self-confidence naturally improve—helping them succeed in their studies! I’m a patient and adaptable tutor who tailors each lesson to fit the…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be fully committed to them while fully giving the student their attention while teaching. Furthermore, I believe that a tutor has to prepare themselves very well before a lesson and bring multiple techniques with them in order to make sure that the student can fully grasp an…

I believe that a tutor should be extremely cautious in what they say; can everything be supported with a logical statement? Because the steps the tutors take to construct the answer are how the students learn from them, a tutor must prepare well and be confident and knowledgeable of what they are giving to the students. It's not about providing…

Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. When a tutor…

The important thing a tutor can do for a student is to assist students in overcoming their challenges with a patient and empathetic approach. Given students' difficulties at school, tutoring sessions should provide a supportive and stress-free environment. Moreover, each processes information at their own pace. Therefore, besides helping with…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build the confidence and skills to learn independently. A tutor's role isn't only to explain concepts, but also to equip students with the strategies and mindset to approach new material independently. By guiding them to understand the basics deeply and think critically, tutors can…

A tutor should identify the students' areas of weakness and focus on helping the students gain knowledge in these areas rather than teaching the student what they already know. The most important thing is that tutors are able to summarise while teaching and ensure the repetition in each lesson. Also, maintaining a healthy relationship with students is significant for both parents' care and students' comfortable learning…

A tutor's job is to fuel their students' love for learning, make them independent, and lend them a hand when it is needed. What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build self-confidence, without this they will not believe in themselves and their ability, and therefore will not make the improvements they are capable of, inspire them to create their own goals, both long-term and short term, big and small, and of course, help…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to enable a student with essential skills, both related to subject taught, as well as life skills. In this way, the student can go on to become an independent learner. My strengths are in being able to put myself in the child's shoes and explain the way he/she wants it. My weakness is that I often give…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be a good role model. As tutors it is crucial to remember that many students often look up to us for guidance and advice. During a period of diverse growth, it is important that a tutor leads students onto the right path for future success. This means that a tutor must listen carefully to…

Inside LugarnoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Harry practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages and reviewed Pythagoras' theorem and early algebra topics.

In Year 8, Jessica focused on solving linear equations and word problems as well as applying index laws using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled differentiation and integration questions for upcoming trial exams, with extra attention to calculus techniques through targeted practice problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student repeatedly relied on "test yourself" questions instead of tackling harder challenge problems in trigonometry, which limited exposure to unfamiliar scenarios—"decided to change from challenge questions as they were quite difficult."

In Year 7, a learner's maths book showed unclear working and messy layout, making it tough to spot where sign errors crept in.

At the senior level, one Year 12 student hesitated with integration and differentiation because he sometimes confused which method was needed; this led to wasted time reworking problems under exam pressure.

Missed opportunities for self-led revision also meant forgotten rules resurfaced during assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Lugarno tutor recently noticed a Year 12 student who'd been struggling with harder integration questions now working through them independently, often getting answers right without hints and even tackling new probability problems with more confidence than before.

In Year 10, another student who previously mixed up which operation to use in linear equations is now consistently choosing the correct method and solving for x accurately.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to guess when unsure has started raising their hand to ask for help as soon as they're stuck, leading to quicker understanding during sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Oatley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lugarno Public School.
