For me, the two things that aided me most when I was being tutored in highschool were practice questions given to me by tutors and when these tutors took their time to really deconstruct these concepts until I fully understood them. My biggest strength is patience. Sometimes it takes students a long time to begin to understand certain concepts and…

Most important thing for any tutor is to understand their student well. If they know the students quite well only then they could develop the educational materials and classes that caters the student's need. Next big thing is encouraging the students and help them maintain a positive attitude. Only if the student is motivated and have positive…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to break a concept down to its simplest form. In my school days, I often found this to be the easiest way to learn. If your basic foundation of any concept is strong, it gets much easier to build on that and learn more complex information pertaining to it. Moreover, being…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to explain concepts clearly, adapt to their learning style, and be patient while guiding them. A tutor should also build the student’s confidence by encouraging them and helping them believe in their abilities. Making learning engaging and relevant is key, as it keeps students motivated.…

A tutor must be a friend and a tutor at the same time.So that, the students can ask their doubts without any inhibition. At the same time, a tutor should understand the weak points of a student and help them in tackling that. First, I think a tutor should have good subject and curriculum knowledge so that they may be able to provide as much information as they can towards the kids. I think communication skills is another important thing a tutor must have (the way they explain the topics so that it is easy for the students to understand). Finally a tutor must be patient…

Being a tutor requires a great responsibility. The first and foremost thing a tutor can do is to be a friend with the student and develop a rapport. We have to understand them first then only we can approach accordingly through our teaching. It's like being a therapist and getting to know them better. If we succeed then we can easily transfer and…

I would say the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is helping them grow as individuals, and help them find a love for learning - a strong passion for the academic studies. A tutor needs to also serve as a good role model for the students, and be a person the student can trust to help them improve their grades. I would say my…

One of the most important factors would be to never give up on your students, where it is your obligation as a tutor to try and understand the student's mentality and mindset and accommodate the teaching style to ensure the student understands the content rather than endorsing mindless memorization. Inside MaddingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jasmine practised working with fractions and used Mathspace to reinforce her understanding of operations with decimals and percentages.

In Year 10, Claudia reviewed matrices and networks, then moved on to exam-style questions involving series and sequences to strengthen problem-solving before her test.

For Year 11, Maha focused on arithmetic and geometric sequences using practice problems, while also tackling compound interest calculations linked to real-world finance scenarios.

Recent Challenges

No significant process-related obstacles or learning habits were observed across the range of lessons from Years 3 to 12.

All required materials were brought along, and there were no instances of missing homework, organizational issues, or revision style concerns noted—even in senior subjects where these can sometimes emerge.

As one tutor put it, "everything required was brought along" for a first lesson, setting a positive tone.

In both primary and high school sessions, students engaged with their tasks as expected and showed readiness to participate fully in the lesson without any soft skill barriers recorded.

Recent Achievements

A Maddington tutoring session with a Year 11 student saw her independently bring practice test questions she'd struggled with, then work through each one until she understood not just the answers but also where she'd gone wrong—something she used to avoid.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who previously rushed through algebra exercises is now pausing to check her reasoning and has noticeably reduced careless errors.

In Year 5 maths, one student who often hesitated to ask for clarification started voicing specific questions when stuck and finished an entire worksheet using strategies discussed together.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Thornlie Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Maddington Primary School.
