They can also serve as great role models which can help them in becoming a better person overall. I am very adaptable, resilient and patient with my teaching. I focus on trying to make sure the fundamentals…

I always work with the student/parent initially to establish a goal (however broad or specific) to aim towards in order to develop an action plan and help their students to achieve results. Secondly, I create such a plan of action and apply it, making the necessary tweaks to improve it as we go along. Finally, I always remain adaptable to change…

I believe effort is the most important thing, regular check ins, solving problems for the student and being able to not only be a tutor but also a friend. Lacking effort to corny especially when I was a tutor made me feel like I wasn’t important and I wasn’t getting my moneys worth. As a tutor I believe I’m able to create a strong connection…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for students is to listen, which helps us understand their needs and enables us to help them effectively. I also think preparation on a tutor's part is a very important part of the relationship with a student. I would consider myself to be a great listener, which comes in handy in tutoring and I my…

Having freshly graduated from highschool, I understand the importance of wanting the "perfect" tutor. I believe that a tutor must be confident and patient enough to explain academic concepts from scratch and contribute to the learning confidence of a student. It's also important to be a mentor and make students feel valued. I remember feeling…

As a tutor it is imminent I can personalise the learning to the students, as they have varying areas of strength and weakness and I should be able to adapt different learning approaches for each student. Hence I should teach to the students strengths and minimise their weaknesses. I believe my strengths as a tutor are my ability to understand…

I just wanted to thank the EzyMath team. Jayesh has done an incredible job in tutoring Shona, her marks have gone from a fail to the mid 80s but not just that, its her understanding of the core concepts that has improved dramatically. Shona is at a point now where she is prepared for her HSC, she has a study schedule in place and feels confident about the syllabus.

Inside Middle DuralTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Daniel explored the interior angles of quadrilaterals using diagrams and practiced setting out algebraic working clearly.

Year 8 Lukas focused on converting word problems into algebraic expressions and used Pythagoras' Theorem to solve for unknown sides in right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student tackled geometry problems involving surface area and volume of solids, applying logical strategies to streamline calculations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student left a significant portion of his school maths work unmarked, making it difficult to identify where help was most needed. As a tutor noted, "he had some difficulties accepting that he would need to mark his work."

In Year 9, another student tended to group calculation steps in his head during algebra and geometry tasks, leading to repeated errors—"tempted to try to calculate in his head," which meant mistakes weren't spotted until much later.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner struggled with short division because key terms and processes weren't consistently recorded in working, leaving gaps when reviewing for assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Middle Dural tutoring session saw Tom, a Year 10 student, tackle multi-part algebra questions with noticeably more independence—he was able to interpret graphs and connect them back to algebraic expressions after struggling to make those links last term.

Will in Year 7, who used to get stuck on number patterns, is now confidently creating his own rules for growing sequences by analysing differences between terms.

Meanwhile, Lukas from Year 8 no longer hesitates when faced with triangle problems; he now applies properties of different triangles and finds interior angles without prompting, even explaining his reasoning as he works through each step.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Galston Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Middle Dural Public School.
