Build the students competence and therefore confidence so they can solve problems and/or structure essays knowing they have the ability to do so and can achieve a great outcome using their own ability. A tutor should ensure the student fully understands the content they are learning and not just rote learning it. A tutor should make the student…

Patience! Not everyone learns at the same pace, so it is important to take your time with students so they get the most out of the tutoring sessions. I believe I am good at adapting teaching styles, depending on the student. People learn in different ways, and I think I'm good at catering to how people learn to help them…

I believe the most important things a biology tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence, make learning approachable, and create a safe space where they feel comfortable asking questions. It’s not just about helping them get the right answers, but about helping them understand the why behind what they’re learning. A good tutor should…

In my honest opinion, offering to help with their academic performances is not the most important things but it is to be there for my student. To be a supportive person who respect their personality, their actions, their way of life. I might not be the smartest tutor who can help them solve every homework but I will be there for them to listen, to…

I feel a good tutor would be there for the student at all times whether its regarding the subject or any other hardships they may be facing as a student. I wish to provide all my support for the growth of the student. Moreover, we as tutors should help the students gain more knowledge about the subject in a way they learn to love the subject as…

The tutor can assist the student in the difficulties they are experiencing in grasping the core concept of the subject. Trying to develop interest in the subject by relating the curriculum with everyday examples that are easier for the student to comprehend and understand. Every child is different and their way of learning will ofcourse be different. So with a few classes we should understand the pace of student and make the learning process unique for each child. Some children learn better when they learn visually, some learn just by hearing. It depends upon students. Every child is brilliant. Some understand…

Make the concept easy enough for them to understand. Secondly, allowing for all types of questions to be asked. But i think the best way a biology tutor can teach someone is by allowing the students to ask the most basic questions so they can grow and…

To give them confidence and make them feel good about themselves. There is nothing more counter-productive than making a student feel disheartened and bad about themselves, since self-doubt yields anxiety and often poor performance in exams. Establishing a basis of trust is vital for the success of the student, so that they feel in a safe space to…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do is to practice empathy in order to ensure the student knows they're in a safe environment where they are allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. The most important things for a biology tutor to do is to help a student strengthen their own ability to learn independantly. I think a biology tutor should provide a fun, engaging and different approach to studying. A tutor should ask questions in a way a teacher hasn't got the time to do. They should always ask what the student wants and implement strategies as to how to attain these goals. But, perhaps at the forefront of responsibility, a tutor should always make…

Personally, a biology tutor is someone outside of school who the student can rely on for their studies. Students show their vulnerability here so that tutor can build them to be strong at school. So a tutor can help the student be strong on their subjects and understand the subject with life. Understanding the student on what they need first and…

We are very happy with our tutor Pradeep. He was brilliant! He helped my daughter with math's test preparation. He explained everything fast and clear. It was a lot of things to cover, but he did it so well. Moreover, my daughter got 90% in her recent maths test thanks to Pradeep.

Inside Mount PleasantTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jamie worked on advanced reading comprehension under timed conditions and built vocabulary through cloze passages.

In Year 10, Sebastien focused on comparative essay writing—structuring paragraphs to analyse The Tempest and Hag-Seed together—and practiced thesis statements for All the Light We Cannot See using sample HSC questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Alex refined long response writing skills by planning and composing introductions collaboratively, with targeted feedback on integrating sophisticated language into academic essays.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, one student repeatedly reused familiar phrases and techniques in essay writing, which narrowed vocabulary growth and made arguments feel formulaic. As noted, "language should be expanded," yet attempts to introduce new words often led to uncertainty and hesitation mid-task.

In Year 11 comparative essays, another student struggled with paragraph structure—layout was sometimes confusing, making it hard to follow the logic of their argument or meet criteria for comparison.

During a recent Year 7 maths session, inconsistent back-checking on worded problems meant small errors crept into otherwise strong answers; time was spent fixing slips rather than building confidence.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Mount Pleasant recently noticed some real growth with students across a few year levels. One high school student, Sebastien, used to stick to the same basic vocabulary but now deliberately swaps in more sophisticated words and has begun drafting assignments earlier without prompting—he even shared his Google doc for feedback before the deadline.

Another senior student had struggled with trigonometry, but after working through problems together started asking clarifying questions independently and successfully tackled new trig questions on his own.

In primary maths, one Year 3 girl who found telling time difficult worked out her own method after practice and now explains her thinking out loud as she solves problems.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Corrimal District Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Pleasant Heights Public School.
