Ensuring that they grasp the knowledge taught is the most crucial thing for me. If they are able to teach it to others, I feel that I have done my job as a tutor. I find it second nature to explain theories to others. I also find ways to make memorising easier. My favourite would be to say tht unsaturated fats are kinky, this is due to the kinks…

A tutor should be there to support the student through all academic struggles they are facing and help the student reach all their academic goals. The tutor should be familiar with their students learning style and preferences, then adjust their tutoring to suit. A tutor should also create a safe environment where the student feels they can ask…

Inside NaremburnTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Nick focused on identifying outliers and calculating standard deviation in data sets, as well as analysing box-plot graphs.

In Year 10, Emily worked through quadratic equations—solving by factorising and graphing parabolas—and also practised simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Olivia tackled logarithms, including laws of logarithms and their application to polynomials, along with some targeted test revision ahead of her upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's graphing work was noted as "messy," making it harder to spot calculation errors or follow their reasoning under test conditions.

For a senior student tackling statistics, over-reliance on written notes during trigonometry practice limited confidence when formulas were not provided—"relies on notes to complete the questions."

Meanwhile, in Year 11 English, a reluctance to write linking sentences led to repeated arguments rather than clear analysis; as observed: "he merely rewrote the question into a vague answer without incorporating explanations."

In each case, clarity and independent working impacted performance in both maths and English tasks.

Recent Achievements

In high school maths, George has moved from needing help with quadratics to independently tackling the most difficult test-style questions, even handling extension problems that previously caused confusion.

Another student, Lilian, used to rely on step-by-step support for equations but now works through multi-step algebraic questions without guidance and is starting to manipulate both sides of equations confidently.

Meanwhile, Nick in Year 7 English shifted from basic paragraph writing to crafting two full PEEL paragraphs using evidence and thoughtful analysis after initially struggling to structure his ideas.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Naremburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like SHORE - Sydney Church of England Preparatory School, Northbridge.
