I think being patient, open, and understanding is the most important thing in tutoring. For me, back when I was a student, I love when my tutors let me use my methods first, then gave me efficient learning strategies to excellently work, as this also aligns with your philosophy, I want to implement this with my future students as-well. A tutor is…

I think it is crucial to make a student interested in the subject, so the learning process can be fun and easier for the student, even without close assistance from the teacher. Based on my students' testimony, I am good at making a boring subject become interesting. They also said that I can create a good story on how the subject is applied in…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to understand their students well, recognizing both their strengths and weaknesses. By focusing more on areas where students struggle, a tutor can provide targeted support. Additionally, keeping study sessions engaging is essential, as a dull environment can hinder students' ability to grasp new…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build the student’s confidence. A tutor isn’t just another teacher outside of school, but also someone who can guide and encourage like a life coach. By supporting them both academically and personally, students feel more motivated to learn and believe in themselves. I’m patient and make an…

In my opinion, a tutor should provide consistent and timely support for each student. By ensuring that they receive timely support, students will be able to review their mistakes earlier and get the support that they need. Consistent support is important to ensure student's progress over time so that they are building on top of their foundation…

I think being approachable, encouraging and being attentive are the most important traits of being a tutor, I want to be able to have a personal relationship with students, in order for them to be comfortable and not be scared to ask me any questions. I want to be able to tutor in a way where students have fun while learning, and not think of it…

The most important part of being a tutor is to provide support. I gain trust with my students by showing them that I am there to support them fully. I engage with them one on one and ensure that there is truly no question 'too stupid' that they cannot ask me for help with. I find over time how the student personally learns and work with their own…

The most important things is to be there for them. Your presence as a tutor in the form of being patient, listening to them in not just the question they cannot solve, but also their learning methods and confidence. By being there for them, rapport can be developed such that it can help them to feel more comfortable failing, especially with a good…

The most important thing a tutor can do is gravitate students toward learning by making them curious. A tutor should try to make learning an activity that students should look forward to. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can pass onto a student is confidence in that learning area, as confidence can act as a motivator for improvement. -Investigate a student's weakness and focus on overcoming that weakness. -A tutor should have an individual plan for each student depending on a student's specific need. -A tutor should aim to develop the skills of a student with time. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them better understand the material they are learning and to really engage with it. Inside NedlandsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sofia worked on identifying and using nouns, adverbs, verbs, and adjectives in English, alongside practicing multiplication tables for 4, 6, 7, 8, and 12.

In Year 8, Chloe focused on understanding isomorphic graphs and adjacency matrices in preparation for an upcoming test.

For Year 10, Daniel tackled Pythagoras' Theorem by finding hypotenuse lengths as well as working through problems requiring calculation of unknown side lengths given the hypotenuse.

Recent Challenges

In recent lessons, a Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework and sometimes brought only answers rather than full working, which made it hard to pinpoint where understanding was lost.

A tutor noted, "He relied on mental maths for division instead of writing steps," leading to repeated errors in basic calculations.

In Year 11 Maths Methods, messy written work during standard deviation questions meant time was wasted hunting for calculation slips instead of focusing on new concepts.

Another senior student skipped practicing harder problems and depended heavily on calculators before attempting questions by hand, especially under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Nedlands noticed that a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on worded trigonometry questions is now breaking down each part independently and double-checking his steps, which wasn't happening a few weeks ago.

Another recent high school session saw Chloe challenge herself by working through matrices unaided for the first time, showing she's comfortable relying on her own skills.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with tricky multiplication now openly checks his thinking out loud and requests clarification whenever he's unsure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Nedlands Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nedlands Primary School.
