I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be flexible with teaching methods as every student is learns differently from different methods and at different speeds. I am comfortable and experienced with working privately with students of all age ranges including younger children. When students don’t understand concepts…

As previously mentioned, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to listen. If you do not listen to the students expectations and responsiveness to the material then the sessions will not be productive, and the student will not improve. My strengths are that I am an incredibly patient tutor, as well as a good listener.…

I believe the most important duty of a tutor is to get his tutee accomplish his/her goal like passing an exam or getting better at the tutored subject. Despite this which I consider the main one, the one which comes immediately after is the comprehension of the topic. This is not only the mechanical way to resolve it but it also means…

I believe understanding the calibre of the student and providing constant motivation is something a tutor must importantly do for a student because quite often the individuality of a student gets lost in class and so the tutor needs to grab onto that individuality of the student so that they can not just progress ahead academically but also stand…

I believe that tutors must be good analyzers if they want to succeed. I mean that they have to examine the way students study and practice and even think. After a good observation, they can provide students with the tools with which students can improve their weaknesses. This can be different form one student to another one. Besides, Encouraging…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to explain concepts and problems in a way that student will be able to understand. The student should then be able to use that understanding to answer questions independently. I teach myself in a way that ensures I understand the concept inside and out. When tutoring this is a strength in…

Organisation, as a tutor I feel organisation from both the student and the teacher is important so the most amount of learning can…

It's important to explain concepts in a way the student can understand and to give positive and constructive feedback to build their confidence throughout the sessions. Although I have no professional experience as a tutor, I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to be able to give them the right amount of time and space for them to learn independently- but always be ready to be bombarded with questions. Communication and understanding of each other. During the tutoring, problems could occur either of studying or of the relaionship between the student and the tutor, but if we keep effective communication and understanding of each other, almost all problems could be solved and high efficiency of learning could be insured. Listening to the student is very important. You need to know when they are getting frustrated and exactly what is confusing them. Sometimes they figure out a different method for solving a problem and if you don't fully understand what they are saying you may not realise they are on the correct track. I think I am good at breaking complicated…

Build confidence and independence, not dependence. A good tutor doesn't just hand over answers they teach the student how to think through a problem, so that in the exam room, alone, the student can do it themselves. That means diagnosing the real gap (it's often two topics earlier than where the student thinks they're stuck), explaining it in…

The most important part of being a tutor is to provide support. I gain trust with my students by showing them that I am there to support them fully. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is helping them to understand and master the basic foundations in their subjects. A great tutor will also showcase to a student the bigger picture, and…

Our daughter Meg has been struggling with multiplication and generally not interested in math at all. Since Angela has been tutoring Meg (for a few weeks now) we have seen a huge improvement in her math. Angela has a very gentle, friendly and patient approach in the way she teaches and puts a lot of thought and effort into her work i.e. she brings along many props. a white board, worksheets and visuals to make it easier for Meg to learn different strategies. Meg thinks she's great and really enjoys her lessons. Meg is also doing much better at school to. Angela is amazing at what she does and we couldn't be happier! We definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking for a tutor.

Inside PalmyraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Abbi focused on factorising and simplifying algebraic expressions, then moved on to solving quadratic equations using methods like completing the square and the quadratic formula.

Year 9 Isabel worked through trigonometry problems and revised for exams by tackling practice questions involving parabolas, simultaneous equations, and rationalising surds.

Meanwhile, Year 4 Jimmy practiced rounding numbers using number lines for visualization, completed long division challenges, and reinforced essay writing skills by drafting structured body paragraphs together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Methods, Isabel often skipped working steps and rushed through long equations, leading to small errors: "She tends to solve things the 'hard' way without stopping and thinking about the best method." This cost marks in algebra and turning point problems.

For Year 10 Maths, Abbi struggled with worded quadratic questions—she found it difficult to extract key information and convert it into equations, especially after longer breaks from practice.

In Year 5 English, Jimmy's highlighting was unfocused; when asked to find important words in a passage, he highlighted almost everything, making reading slow and overwhelming.

Recent Achievements

One Palmyra tutor noticed Isabel's steady shift towards independence in Year 10 maths: after struggling with worded problems, she recently scored 81% on her exam—up from 60%—and now tackles most application questions solo.

In a recent session, Abbi (Year 11) moved from needing help to solving standard quadratic equations entirely on her own, even showing initiative by attempting harder simultaneous equation tasks without prompting.

Meanwhile, Jimmy (Year 4) made a leap in essay writing; he previously needed step-by-step guidance but managed to complete a full body paragraph himself for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as AH Bracks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Richmond Primary School.
