Most importantly, a student should be motivated and encouraged so that he studies with interest. He should be made to feel that if he failed to understand a concept once, it is perfectly fine and he should keep trying. He should be taught the actual meaning of the word 'Competition' , which is to beat his / her own last performance and not anyone…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Most importantly a chemistry tutor should be ready to explain a single concept even 10 times to students if they are not able to get that without getting annoyed Well , I'm quite patient which I think is my biggest…

A tutor can certainly change a child's mindset towards any subject because it all depends on making the basics of a subject strong so that there is no further problem. i must mention that I personally believe that there is no such thing as a silly question, so whatever doubts a student might face even if he assumes it to be silly, I am always…

I consider the most important thing as a chemistry tutor is the success of my student academically through personalised lessons. I feel an obligation to ensure that my students pass or exceed in the topics they bring to the lessons and aim to empower them to create independent learners. I would say my strengths are being able to break down complex…

As I alluded to earlier, I think the student's enjoyment is extremely important. That's not to say that they should be having fun at the expense of gaining knowledge, much the contrary; I think the best way for a student to gain knowledge that will last beyond the next test or exam is to have it conveyed in such a way that they take a genuine…

Primarily, a chemistry tutor needs to be a good listener. Listen the problems of an individual carefully and provide the solution. Tutor can be a mentor not only of the academic but can be a mentor of other emotional and mental problems. Patience is the baby step to become an effective tutor. Some children might need patience levels that may put…

A tutor needs to help identify a student's strong points and motivate the students in every possible way. It's not always the tutor that should be valued and respected but the students also needs the same respect and care. A tutor has to be patient and welcoming for their students. The reason these students come for tutoring is because they face difficulty keeping up with school. So they should be given the space to understand at their own pace, in their own method and a teacher needs to recognize that. We need to recognize the method which we choose to teach a…

I believe that a chemistry tutor should make a student feel safe enough that they ask as many questions as they need to ask in order to fully understand a topic. A tutor should encourage the student to believe in their own abilities and develop the student's confidence to allow them to eventually approach and solve problems on their own. I believe…

A tutor can help a student grow not only in their academics but also as a human. A tutor is different from a teacher as they can be more personal with a student during 1 on 1 teaching. Local Reviews

Luke is loving Leo and looks forward to every lesson. His maths has greatly improved since we started with Leo and his confidence is increasing exponentially. In fact, his Maths teacher is so impressed by his abilities, he is keen to push Luke to take up studies in Maths at a higher level in Yr 12.

Inside ParalowieTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Archie revised BIDMAS and fractions, working on accuracy with operations involving both.

Year 8 student Isobel practised converting fractions to percentages as well as adding and subtracting fractions, focusing on method consistency.

For Year 5, Suhana began partitioning numbers, tackled basic multiplication and division, and explored simple fractions using hands-on examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled with test questions on mitosis and meiosis, needing extra hints rather than using feedback to revisit key concepts.

In Year 9 algebra, a tutor noted, "he skipped showing steps in indices simplification," which made it hard to spot calculation errors.

A Year 8 learner hesitated to attempt composite shape problems independently, often giving up quickly if unsure how to begin.

Meanwhile, a primary student avoided working through multi-digit subtraction when confused by 'borrowing', offering guesses instead of engaging with the process—leaving misunderstandings unresolved and confidence low after setbacks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Paralowie noticed one Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to check her answers now backchecking her work independently and catching mistakes before submission.

In a recent high school session, another student started talking through his thinking process out loud while solving algebraic questions—something he hadn't done before—which helped him solve problems with fewer errors.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student, who used to get flustered by large numbers of math problems, has begun calmly breaking them into smaller chunks and tackling each section without panicking. Last week, she finished a whole page independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burton Community Hub Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Temple Christian College - Bethany Campus.
