A tutor should communicate clearly, break down complex concepts, and adapt to a student’s learning style to make learning more effective. Equally important is creating a supportive environment that relieves stress, builds confidence, and encourages critical thinking to help students overcome difficulties One of my biggest strengths as a tutor is…

A tutor should be someone who explains concepts in a way that is understood by and builds confidence in each student. Therefore, being flexible and able to provide a unique experience for every student is integral to the role of tutor. I am patient and have a strong understanding of content which allows me to answer questions and shift my teaching…

A tutor must be someone that the student can confidently rely on with their progress in school. They should be seen as a platform that the student can reach out to and clear any doubts they have from the work they receive in and out of school. The tutor should provide a sufficient amount of work and constantly push the student to perform better…

The msot important thing an english tutor can do for a student is give the student confidence and the ability to learn and understand areas that they may be weakest at a faster rate and to help the student achieve their goals. Patience and confidence in a student is what a tutor needs and has to implement for a student so that the student…

I believe the most important things an english tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, support their individual learning needs, and foster a genuine understanding of the subject. It's not just about helping them get the right answers, but about teaching them how to approach problems, think critically, and develop independent…

I don't hope to replace the school teachers completely. However 1 to 1 and smaller group engagements would help put in a more personal touch that would minimize the weakness of the student, bring the best out of them and build character (patience, resilience, analytical thinking) to supplement them to succeed in their education journey Analytical…

The most important thing an english tutor can do is create a good bond with the children and create confidence in allowing them to voice themselves. This voice allows them to carrying their convictions through school and be confident in his or her abilities. I feel I am relaxed with the children however stern when work is to be done. My relaxed…

I think one of the most important things an english tutor can do is build a student's confidence. When students believe they can understand the material, they're much more willing to try difficult problems and improve, which can help improve their problem solving skills for future topics in high school and beyond. I think one of my strengths is…

Beside academically helping a student, I believe being a strong support network is a really important thing as an english tutor to fulfill. The most important thing an english tutor can do is help a student truly understand concepts rather than just memorise them. Building confidence is also key, as many students struggle due to self-doubt rather than ability. A good tutor should adapt to each student's learning style, be patient, and create a supportive environment where questions…

A tutor should be a mentor. They are someone who can guide a student and give real advice. This means they are approachable in and beyond the classroom setting. Being interactive is another must. The student should be solving the problems simply with the tutor's guidance. Tutors must also encourage the student to feel comfortable asking questions…

Help them gain a thorough understanding of concepts that they are incapable of doing alone, I want the student to understand that academic marks is not what we are trying to achieve but more of the effort and interest that they put in the subject which will lead towards success a process that needs to be taken instead of chasing the 90 + target…

Inside PemulwuyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aryan worked on addition using number lines and practised multiplication questions to build fluency.

In Year 10, Patrick focused on discrete probability concepts from his yearly exam, including expected value and variance, and also reviewed applications of trigonometry in two dimensions such as angles of elevation and depression.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Ali completed HSC-level revision under timed conditions with an emphasis on differentiation techniques and integrating exponential functions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4, one student hesitated to show working for double-digit multiplication and needed reminders to recall each step without relying on previous solutions.

"He often began from the right but lost track of the next steps," a tutor noted, which led to confusion midway.

In Year 11 Maths, another student became overly dependent on formula sheets rather than interpreting what a probability or integration question truly required; this habit left her stumped by unfamiliar wording during practice exams.

When faced with multi-step algebra in Year 9, skipping written working hid key errors—making it hard to spot where she went wrong.

Recent Achievements

A Pemulwuy tutor recently noticed a Year 12 student coming to each session with specific questions prepared, a big shift from last term when he'd wait passively for guidance—he even completed two years' worth of HSC papers independently and pinpointed his weak spots himself.

In Year 10, another student who previously hesitated to speak up now regularly asks for clarification as soon as something doesn't make sense, sometimes even requesting alternative solutions.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary school started drawing dot arrays to tackle multiplication problems—something he avoided before—and now finishes simple times tables with little help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ebenezer Christian College.
