The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is make them believe in their ability to apply their learning independently. I aim to achieve this through frequent interspersed practise questions in my lessons. My biggest strength as a tutor is communication. I strive for feedback-oriented lessons that allow me to identify my…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do is inspire and incite passion around learning. If the student knows the outcome of what's being taught and enjoys the process of learning, then it is much easier for the student to build on their own knowledge independently in the future. I believe I can create excitement around topics and show…

I would say a physics tutors' ultimate goal would be to get in sync with the way the student is taught in their respective schools, colleges or universities. Additionally, it is extremely important to make friends with the students, as this is necessary for proper engagement. I am not afraid to do some research when it comes to getting a student…

I think the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is helping the student believe in themselves and letting them know they can do well. This is because most of the time students self doubts leads to them struggling with content not a lack of ability. I create strategies to help my students remember content easier and I make sure…

I think the most important thing is helping the student build confidence and understand the basics properly. Once that's in place, everything else becomes easier. A tutor should also be supportive and consistent, so the student feels comfortable and keeps improving over time. I am good at explaining things in a simple way and adapting depending on…

Understand their way of learning, and adjusting to the student to accomodate them. I have had multiple experiences where my tutor would try to teach their method and force that method upon me. However, it is important to recognise the difference in the way different people learn, and not force upon a way of learning and hope that way of learning…

The things I consider most important for tutors are clarity, confidence, and independence. Clear explanations can turn topics that a student might shy away from into smaller ideas that they can relate to and therefore understand. Confidence grows when you celebrate small wins and frame mistakes as part of the learning process. Afterwards,…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do is build a student's confidence. Inside PlentyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Emily practised finding surface area and volume of complex 3D shapes, then reviewed key geometry concepts in preparation for her measurement test.

In Year 11, Indie focused on polynomials and differentiation techniques to consolidate understanding before a major maths assessment.

For Year 12, recent sessions with Jack involved estimating the area under curves using integration and revisiting logarithms alongside circular functions through worked examples and discussion.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, one student hesitated to attempt complex differentiation questions, expressing "difficulty in solving complex Algebra expressions," which led to gaps when tackling multi-step problems.

In Year 8, panic during timed assessments resulted in a lower score than expected; as noted, "panic under time constraints (possibly due to not being so confident?) might be the cause."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student often doubted her correct answers and avoided attempting worded problems without reassurance. This uncertainty slowed progress on application tasks and meant she sometimes left parts of assignments incomplete during sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Plenty tutor noticed a real shift with Indie (Year 11), who, after missing classes, not only caught up on complex differentiation topics but came prepared to sessions with specific questions and managed to solve her own Logarithms problems once discussion began—previously she would have waited for step-by-step help.

In Year 10, Ryan quickly recalled prior years' concepts and confidently tackled new gradient and intercept problems he used to find confusing.

Meanwhile, Emily in Year 6 has started recognizing her own small errors in linear graph drawing between sessions, correcting them herself without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Diamond Valley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Thomas the Apostle School.
