The most important thing a tutor can do is to keep track of the student's record and assess their strengths and weaknesses at a personal level. Dealing patiently with kids to reach out at a personal level is a must for a tutor. I am well versed with English and Mathematics at an advanced level and have a good grasp over the other subjects as well.…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not judge their ability but rather acknowledge the hardwork and congratulate their persistence and incentivise them to want to learn as opposed to being forced to learn, reward the student for getting a new personal best on their test, this will ensure the child knows that their hardwork…

Understanding that each kid is different, being patient, explaining things in an easily consumable way. On a side note, the resume I am attaching is a bit old, and I have been having trouble editing the document. I am sorry about this, and I am happy to send the latest if you are interested. I think the most important thing things a tutor can do for a student is understand that each student is different and will absorb information in different ways and paces. Providing support for them as much as they need, and giving them a space to reach out and ask questions where they are unsure. The more questions asked, the better a topic will…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student in mentor them. This is both within their academic journey and outside of it. Also being able to deeply understand the concept you're teaching and thus helping the student grasp the same concept is a crucial part of being a tutor. Furthermore, being able to explain it in the perfect way…

The most important thing is to create a comfortable and enjoyable learning space so that the students can always look forward to coming to class, and so they begin to view learning as a positive thing rather than a chore. Along with that, tutors need to also be very attentive with their students and closely observe their progression so we can give…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is teaching only but apart from that, I would say building a relationship. It is very important for the child to make a bond with the teacher so that he/she is comfortable with the tutor to discuss the problems they have been facing. Another thing I would say is learning the children and…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are create a supportive environment, build a student’s confidence, and make learning engaging. It’s not just about teaching the material, but encouraging students to think for themselves, ask questions, and see mistakes as part of the learning process is just as important. A good tutor also…

If you can not tailor your communication in order for your student to grasp what you are trying to teach them then you can not become a well rounded tutor. I believe it is important to know what the child is struggling on and to address it directly. If they are finding a certain part of math hard such as division, we should address that directly and keep touching back on it. Or if they just want to raise their grades, we can try improve harder content and making sure we understand the importance of…

I believe the ability to catalyse inner motivation is the greatest thing a tutor can do for their student. From my experience, I performed the best in subjects where my teachers were able to open my eyes to the interesting and cool aspects, as well as their application in real life. When a student understands not only the "WHAT" of the content,…

I think one of the most important aspects is to be patient with the student. Its important to understand that each student is different, and create an environment that is comfortable for them to ask questions without feeling belittled or shunned. It takes great patience to achieve this; its important to go over aspects multiple times if needed,…

Very easy to get started. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Quick service with the actual tutor calling almost the next day to sort out when available. Big improvement in my Year 9 child's math studies. It has really helped her to understand Maths; with her knowledge being quite basic to start with. Was failing and within 3 months got her first pass in a major math test.

Inside Point CookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Daniel focused on solving linear equations and modelling real-world scenarios with them, along with annuity and interest calculations in financial mathematics.

In Year 11, Emily worked through Math Methods Unit 1 and 2, tackling polynomials, functions, and the application of quadratic equations using chapter-based exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Josh practiced Further Maths matrices modules—transposing matrices and interpreting networks—and reviewed past exam papers to strengthen problem-solving speed and accuracy under timed conditions.

Recent Challenges

Several students in both primary and secondary years relied heavily on calculators or online modules instead of practicing key maths operations by hand, especially with algebra and negative numbers.

For example, one Year 8 student was encouraged to "do more pen and paper practice rather than relying on Math Pathway modules" after missing steps in factorization exercises.

In VCE Maths Methods, another student's messy working made it hard to spot errors before tests—"a dedicated workbook to write the steps in detail" was suggested for clarity. This sometimes led to extra time spent retracing unclear calculations during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Point Cook tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after weeks of mixing up steps, is now carefully listing every stage of advanced algebra factorisation before checking answers—he'd previously skipped straight to solutions and made small errors.

A Year 12 student has started timing herself on statistics extended-response questions; she used to get stuck for ages but now completes each in under fifteen minutes, which is a real change in her exam readiness.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student who often guessed at tricky spellings now points out when she's unsure and asks for help spelling new words aloud during lessons.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Point Cook Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Lumen Christi School.
