While a physics tutor the ultimately needs to improve a students understanding of a topic, an overlooked part of their job is providing a structured for a student to learn outside of tutoring sessions. I am good at breaking down concepts into a form that a person can…

Beyond grades, I consider a real tutoring success to be one that positively impacts a students’ relationship with studying overall. This is a goal that will benefit them for their whole education, not just the particular subject I am tutoring them in. To achieve such an effect, it is important to develop a bond with the student and attend their…

I can support them with content, study methods, SAC and exam preparation, and help them develop skills that benefit them beyond school as well. Strong understanding of the VCE system and recent…

Teaching math or English?! students can get that information from books, the internet, online courses and so many other ways. But things that a crafty and caring tutor would do is to support, understand, and talk, in one word, be there for the student. Being a friend and caring about every student, realising their talent and the ways they…

I believe an essential aspect to include in tutoring is helping students to develop metacognitive and study skills. In mainstream education, the uniqueness of student learning processes is often neglected. When I tutor students, I highly value teaching the specific study skills that will be most effective for them, imparting not merely content…

I believe that there is no easy way in tutoring, the same as there is no easy way to get the answer. Whenever they are stuck it is our job to guide them through and companying them along. Whenever there are difficult times, give out the answers is never the way to solve the problem. I'm very patient when teaching my students, I wouldn't mind…

teach understanding of a topic rather than how to do a problem so the student can tackle more difficult problems on there own without help. With understanding you can answer any question. I can approach and understand difficult problems and take away the unneeded parts making it easier for others to understand it. I am also easy to talk to and so…

To individualise teachings tailored to the needs of a given student. The most important role of a physics tutor is to help students build a strong and logical way of thinking about mathematics. Rather than simply teaching formulas or providing answers, a tutor should develop the student’s problem-solving process and give them a reliable framework for approaching unfamiliar questions. I also believe a good tutor…

As a one-on-one teaching assistant with more than one year of experience, providing some notes and problem-solving skills to students, and the notes would not be covered by their school. Furthermore, the tutoring note would be based on the studying situation of different students, so the teaching notes would have strong pertinence and thus help…

Resilience after drawbacks. Giving confidence to the student is the most important thing. If the student is not confident in their ability to do the task, then they will believe that they can not and will not try. Understanding the frustrations that the student can have because they don't understand something, staying calm and patiently taking the student through the problem…

I believe one of the most vital things that tutors can do is alter their teaching type based on different students' abilities and progression over time. I think this helps differentiate tutoring from normal schooling as normal schooling is generalised for all students and doesn't cater for individual students' strengths and weaknesses. I believe…

A tutor should be able to identify the weaknesses and strengths of a student and lift their confidence first. An excellent tutor has patience to work with the student until the student's needs are achieved. Giving positive feedback when they present their work, which will then stimulate their work ethic. A good tutor must be able to understand the needs of the student. Every students has his/her own level and it is very important for a good tutor to recognise that level. Inside Ringwood EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Harry focused on multiplying and dividing using times tables grids and practiced finding percentages of numbers, including real-world scenarios like discounts.

In Year 8, Gabriella worked through factorising quadratic equations and practiced graphing quadratics in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Tom tackled solving linear equations and explored how to sketch lines and calculate gradients across different contexts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7, one student's algebra work was hard to follow because working steps weren't shown—"writing out the process would have made sign errors easier to spot."

In Year 10, messy layouts and unlabeled diagrams in geometry led to confusion when checking answers.

A Year 11 student skipped homework on exponents, making class review less effective and missing feedback opportunities.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student only revised familiar multiplication facts instead of challenging areas; this slowed their progress with division tasks.

After setbacks, a senior student hesitated to ask clarifying questions, leaving gaps unaddressed before tests.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ringwood East noticed a Year 10 student who was previously hesitant with algebra now solving multi-step expressions much faster, finishing their times tables under five minutes for the first time.

In Year 11 English, one student began offering more creative ideas during discussions and even took the initiative to brainstorm themes for their upcoming SAC—something they'd rarely volunteered before.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who used to need lots of guidance worked out nearly all her 8-times-table questions independently this week, only checking in for help when really needed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eastwood Primary School.
