1. Being patient with the students. 2. Adhering to their problems, listening to them. The fact that I was in middle-high school not many years ago, I know studying can get overwhelming at times. my ability to overcome that and help others overcome that is one of my greatest strengths. I am good at handling kids as…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is not pressure students and understand that everyone learns differently. Not all students will get something right away, and what matters is being patient and staying with them through the process until they understand. I believe it is about making them feel supported instead of rushed, so they can…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. It is really important for tutors to understand the needs and abilities of their students in order to maintain progress. It is also crucial for tutors to have time-management and resourceful qualities in order to ensure academic development in students.…

The most important thing I’ve learned from my experience as a student receiving tutoring is that real understanding matters more than memorising steps. When something is explained clearly and in a way that matches how I learn, it becomes much easier to actually grasp the concept rather than just remember it for a short time. I’ve also…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student believe they are capable. A lot of students have already decided they are bad at the subject, so rebuilding that confidence comes first. From there it is about helping them understand the thinking behind an answer, not just the answer itself. If they only memorise a method they…

Understand the feelings and character of different students. Some students who tutor may be gifted, however there are many also who may are demotivated and have a low-self esteem which causes them to believe they aren't good enough to excel. I believe tutors should change the perspective from studying from an extrinsic desire, for instance, marks…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build trust, show patience, and create a supportive learning environment. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt themselves. In this case, it is important for the tutor to encourage students and create a supportive learning environment in a way that helps the student see their progress. The first thing is showing them achieving anything is possible no mater how hard the task. Even if at first it seems impossible, by not giving up on them it can teach the student to always try and have faith in their abilities. The second thing is setting them up for success. Inside SchofieldsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Riya focused on structuring multi-digit equations neatly and practiced multiplication with two-digit numbers, then completed a spelling test to reinforce her English skills.

In Year 8, Shreya worked through long division using the "bus stop" method and explored figurative writing techniques, applying them in paragraph writing for English.

For Year 10, Ethan tackled algebraic linear equations—solving them step by step—and reviewed key concepts from recent school tests to strengthen his understanding before upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Science, one student hesitated to write lab reports quickly and struggled to analyze information independently—"needs to analyse and write any information given," noted a tutor—which slowed progress during experiments.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student in Chemistry had difficulty recalling formulas for balancing equations without prompts, often leaving related homework incomplete.

In Mathematics (Year 9), forgetting basic conversion rules led to confusion when tackling fractions and decimals; the student "gets confused where to divide and multiply."

A primary learner avoided rechecking answers in multiplication tasks, missing small sign errors that lingered into new work.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Schofields noticed Arham, a high school student, taking real initiative by asking questions when stuck and checking her own mistakes instead of waiting for prompts—something she used to avoid.

Alhena, also in high school, managed to solve tricky worded math problems independently after previously struggling with them, especially around fractions and decimals.

For a younger learner, Huyan's reading sessions became much more focused once he was allowed to read his favourite rap song; now he persists through unfamiliar words rather than giving up quickly, even reading out loud whole phrases from the lyrics without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Vinegar Hill Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Schofields Public School.
