Tutoring is very different to a typical classroom setting. Each session is unique and solely focused on the one student. This one-to-one learning experience is something many students wouldn’t normally get in a classroom. Naturally, they’ll be able to ask as many questions as they want. As a result, I’ll feel I’m making a real difference…

Inside SilverwaterTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student worked on multiplication and division skills, including strategies for long division using step-by-step written methods.

Year 8 student, Jessica, focused on algebra—specifically expanding and simplifying expressions as well as a brief introduction to factorisation.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student revised laws of indices and exponents by identifying patterns in number theory questions from the curriculum.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often skipped writing steps in algebra, especially with negatives and surds—"he preferred to do it in his head," one tutor observed—leading to sign errors that took extra time to correct.

In Year 12, unfinished homework meant valuable lesson time was spent catching up on questions instead of tackling new calculus topics; late submissions were sometimes due to outside commitments like sport or camp.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student struggled with remembering trigonometry formulas after switching topics, making it hard to apply concepts during practice tests.

These moments left students feeling behind just as new material was introduced.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Silverwater recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously struggling with exam errors, now spots and corrects "silly mistakes" on his own—he fixed about a quarter of his latest paper without prompting.

In another session, a Year 10 student who once left homework unfinished has started submitting it consistently and even asks for clarification when stuck, rather than guessing or staying silent.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to need help with multi-digit addition can now solve sums like 23+28 independently by remembering to carry forward—a step he often missed before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ermington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newington Public School.
