I believe that a tutor should be there for a student, to support and answer questions as a means of enriching their understanding. They should also be flexible to a student’s needs, such as creating plans around their current studies or providing extra materials to further their knowledge. I am flexible and adaptable, focusing on the student’s…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to guide them towards the right path in their studies. This may include productive habits such as doing homework or even something as simple as asking for help when they're stuck. Instilling habits like these will enable them to move on their own once they're older. I consider myself to be…

In my opinion, the most valuable thing that a tutor can do for the student is to bring his/her interest to learn about anything in academic subjects. Most of the students nowadays are more keen on social media postings and playing online games. Sometimes, they forgot how important the academic knowledge in their lives. So, bring back the student's…

It is essential for a tutour to try and ensure that they empower their student, by instilling confidence in them regarding their own ability. Creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for a student is one important aspect of effective tutoring. The private setting is what sets apart tutoring and classroom learning. So much of learning is based on relationships, communication styles, understanding a student's background and their academic, social, and emotional growths which…

I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. A few of the most important skills for the field are patience and communication. Since you’re dealing with students and their weaknesses, you need to be patient in whatever circumstances arise. Additionally, the only way to do your job as a tutor is to convey tough…

The most important thing is truly caring about the student's needs and not just delivering the content so that whatever needs to be taught is "taught". We need to take the time to understand their needs/goals and style of learning to engage with them in the best way possible throughout the lesson for them to learn. I am very patient and…

Most important thing is to make the subject easy and interesting for the student. A student should feel confident after the topic is taught. I feel I have the knack of explaining the topic to a student in some of the most simple and easy ways to understand. I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. Inside SilverwaterTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student worked on multiplication and division skills, including strategies for long division using step-by-step written methods.

Year 8 student, Jessica, focused on algebra—specifically expanding and simplifying expressions as well as a brief introduction to factorisation.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student revised laws of indices and exponents by identifying patterns in number theory questions from the curriculum.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often skipped writing steps in algebra, especially with negatives and surds—"he preferred to do it in his head," one tutor observed—leading to sign errors that took extra time to correct.

In Year 12, unfinished homework meant valuable lesson time was spent catching up on questions instead of tackling new calculus topics; late submissions were sometimes due to outside commitments like sport or camp.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student struggled with remembering trigonometry formulas after switching topics, making it hard to apply concepts during practice tests.

These moments left students feeling behind just as new material was introduced.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Silverwater recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously struggling with exam errors, now spots and corrects "silly mistakes" on his own—he fixed about a quarter of his latest paper without prompting.

In another session, a Year 10 student who once left homework unfinished has started submitting it consistently and even asks for clarification when stuck, rather than guessing or staying silent.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to need help with multi-digit addition can now solve sums like 23+28 independently by remembering to carry forward—a step he often missed before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ermington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newington Public School.
