Instead of simply teaching the concepts, a chemistry tutor should try to teach the student the logic behind the concept; he/she should try to simplify difficult concepts in a way students can grasp. Moreover, I think it's important that a tutor lets the student work on the problems first, let them brainstorm and develop their thinking skills…

Chemistry Tutor Highton, VIC
I have good grades, knowledge, a Master's degree and experience in the field. I believe it is important to find a chemistry tutor who is patient, who truly enjoys teaching, enjoys the company of his or her students and has the ability to build a rapport with them so that they can learn. This, I promise you, I can do. I like to explain the concept…

A tutor's traditional role is to deliver a concept to a student. However I believe that they also work behind the scenes to raise a student's confidence and enjoyment in a subject. Sometimes it's the tutor that makes or breaks a student's interest and motivation to learn. I have recently just finished schooling so I am very knowledgeable of the…

A tutor’s most important role is to support and guide the student’s learning in a way that builds their confidence. It’s not just about explaining content, but about creating a safe space where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. A tutor should encourage independence by teaching strategies that help the…

Bao was very engaging with my son and got to work straight away, assessing his strengths and where the work should focus. My son really enjoys working with Bao and reports that he already is gaining in confidence after only 2 sessions. Working on Year 12 VCE Mathematics Methods.

Inside StonehavenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Aria explored how to convert between millimetres and centimetres using a unit conversion table, and quickly found ratios between different units.

In Year 10, Phoebe focused on revising indices in preparation for her upcoming exam, tackling practice problems to build fluency.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ethan worked through compound interest calculations across a variety of questions, applying the formula in financial scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 maths, one student's division work often showed incomplete steps and missing working for fractions, which made it hard to identify where understanding broke down—she forgot steps of doing long division and needed more exercises.

In a Year 9 English session, starting essays proved stressful; he hesitated to get words down, leading to blank pages and lost time. As a tutor noted: "He gets stuck starting an essay—not only did he tell me this but it also happened when we were doing the introduction and conclusion." This meant ideas stayed in his head instead of building momentum on paper.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Stonehaven noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with exponential growth problems now tackles compound interest questions with fewer prompts, thanks to regular practice.

In English, a Year 11 student has started volunteering insightful quotes and character analysis for their play studies, whereas previously they'd wait for guidance before sharing ideas.

For a younger learner, simplifying tricky ratio questions is no longer intimidating—she recently broke down a complex algebra problem independently after struggling to start on her own just weeks ago.

Last session, she finished all ten problems without errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Highton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rollins Primary School-Batesford Campus.
