I think the most important things are building the student’s confidence, adapting to their individual learning style, and creating a supportive environment where they feel comfortable making mistakes. A good tutor should also help students develop independent learning skills, so they become more confident working through problems on their own.…

Teach obviously! but i think if the tutor can make the lessons as fun as possible so that the student looks forward to them as something enjoyable rather than as purely work, the best results will occur. I am an excellent communicator and can teach via example quite effectively in almost any subject. I am easily able to match my communication…

The most important role of a tutor is to act as a guide rather than a lecturer, fostering self-directed learning and deep conceptual understanding over rote memorization. Tutors must normalize mistakes as essential learning tools and ultimately equip students with the independence to succeed on their own. My strength is breaking down hard concepts…

The tutor must help the student improve in the subject they are teaching. This involves explaining things clearly so the student can understand and are thus enabled to tackle such questions and tasks on their own in the future. I also believe that the tutor must make the student feel comfortable around them. If it is possible to do without…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. This is done through understanding how they learn things best, whether through diagrams, metaphors, or a direct example of the concept to start. This allows them to build…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and remember that everyone learns at their own pace, in their own way. I believe that boosts a student's confidence in the school environment as they are receiving additional help from outside. This allows them to enjoy their time at school and develop positive learning habits. All of these effects will result in better grades for a student, once again fostering more confidence, and cycling back to better grades. I…

Inside StrathfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jacob focused on advanced algebra, tackling worded problems ahead of class pace in maths and developing time-pressured writing and editing skills in English, including analysing text structure.

For Year 9, Amanda worked intensively on exam revision, targeting earlier-term maths topics for reinforcement and creating essays in English as part of her exam preparation.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Lily reviewed key numeracy concepts for NAPLAN by practising division and multiplication questions using sample test materials.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, Jacob struggled to translate strong verbal analysis into structured writing—his ability to discuss as proof of him being able to correctly form reasoning, however his confidence when it comes to writing heavily restricts this reasoning.

In mathematics (Year 8), a reluctance to consistently write working led to errors in algebra and worded problems; he often defaulted to solving mentally, which became overwhelming on harder questions.

For HSC Biology, one student included unnecessary details in short answers and missed key terminology, making it difficult for them to link concepts under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Strathfield recently saw Jacob, a Year 8 student, move from avoiding written working-out to actively using it—now he tackles multi-step algebra and quadratic questions much faster than before.

In senior science, Luke showed new initiative by completing practice exam papers on his own without prompting, something he hesitated to do earlier in the term.

Meanwhile, younger student Burla made a noticeable shift in problem-solving: after initially needing lots of help with time word questions, she now reads them independently and selects the correct operation herself before asking for feedback.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burwood Library and Community Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Santa Sabina College, Santa Maria del Monte.
