Make them a good person. Academics is important, but they also need to realize the purpose of education other than capitalistic schemes. Another thing is how a student can start to excel their academia without even realizing it. Good communication skills. Friendly environment. I like to be friends with my students rather than being a teacher. This…

Building a relationship with students, this will help students to relax while learning. Being able to understand their needs is essential to me because as a student myself, I deeply understand the stress and difficulties for different aspects. I am good at communicating and able to explain in a understandable way without using language that it is…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only developing his academics skills but how the tutor encourage student to do more beyond his limit. It is important for the student to have discipline and enjoy the entire session. It should be fun, information, and enjoyable for both the tutor and student. This is to develop…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build understanding, confidence, and independence. It's important to explain concepts clearly so students understand the reasoning, not just the steps. A tutor should also create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. This helps build…

A tutor should educate a student in the required content and keeping the student engaged, whilst still ensuring that the session is enjoyable, and fulfilling. To achieve this, a tutor should obviously be diligent in teaching, which includes preparing content and lessons beforehand, as well as consistently asking the student for feedback to guide…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to foster curiosity and build a student's confidence. Encouraging students to study a subject for a deeper purpose, rather than simply aiming for high grades, helps them develop genuine interest and motivation to learn. When students become curious, they are more likely to explore ideas…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. I think this confidence is important in not just getting high marks in quizzes and tests, but I believe that being confident will help them long-term in solving problems not just in school, even though…

I believe assisting the student in their academic journey whenther it be academically or mentally is what a tutor should do for a student. This either through motivating them to try their best, focusing on teaching the students their weaknesses, and guiding these students to become good peoples of society. I am a very good at expressing…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students, is to be their friends. It helps providing the students an environment where they can enjoy what they are studying. Build Confidence: Often, a student's struggle with math is more about a fear of failure than an inability to learn. The first job of a tutor is to create a positive, stress-free environment and show the student that they are capable. This shift in mindset is the foundation for all progress. My strong performance in my engineering Diploma at UTS…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to lay a right foundation for the student to learn. Teaching them not to memorise formulae but to actually understand the theory behind the formula as higher levels of maths rely on prior knowledge that needs to be firmly understood. I can build my students engagement with and appreciation of the subject (many students find school boring or purposeless and I make a point to spark more joy in learning by integrating key notes of relevance into every lesson). Encouraging independence is significant. Students should be introduced to strategies to be independent and more effective learners. Being a motivator who encourages students to strive to be the best they can, to reach their goals, to focus on their strengths so that they will be successful in the future. Also, building strong relationships with…

Inside StrathfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jacob focused on advanced algebra, tackling worded problems ahead of class pace in maths and developing time-pressured writing and editing skills in English, including analysing text structure.

For Year 9, Amanda worked intensively on exam revision, targeting earlier-term maths topics for reinforcement and creating essays in English as part of her exam preparation.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Lily reviewed key numeracy concepts for NAPLAN by practising division and multiplication questions using sample test materials.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 English, Jacob struggled to translate strong verbal analysis into structured writing—his ability to discuss as proof of him being able to correctly form reasoning, however his confidence when it comes to writing heavily restricts this reasoning.

In mathematics (Year 8), a reluctance to consistently write working led to errors in algebra and worded problems; he often defaulted to solving mentally, which became overwhelming on harder questions.

For HSC Biology, one student included unnecessary details in short answers and missed key terminology, making it difficult for them to link concepts under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Strathfield recently saw Jacob, a Year 8 student, move from avoiding written working-out to actively using it—now he tackles multi-step algebra and quadratic questions much faster than before.

In senior science, Luke showed new initiative by completing practice exam papers on his own without prompting, something he hesitated to do earlier in the term.

Meanwhile, younger student Burla made a noticeable shift in problem-solving: after initially needing lots of help with time word questions, she now reads them independently and selects the correct operation herself before asking for feedback.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burwood Library and Community Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Santa Sabina College, Santa Maria del Monte.
