Aside from teaching them the class materials, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to give them the confidence to face their fears and problems. I believe motivating them to reach their goals and helping them recognize their strengths and weakness would positively affect them in school and life. My strength as a…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide support and help them develop independence in their learning. A tutor should guide students to understand concepts by encouraging them to think critically and problem-solve on their own. It is also important to help students enjoy learning and develop the resilience to…

If I can make a student begin thinking more about the subject than just a grade to obtain, I would have felt that I made one more curious person. Curiosity is the root of knowledge in my opinion, and it would be the seed that I can share with the students that I engage with. I believe, they would lie in science, especially with regard to my…

I believe being understanding of their needs and patience are the most important qualities. First of all, empathy so student never feels uncomfortable about not knowing a topic. Secondly, the ability to listen is as important as explaining things, so I'll be able to understand their point of view on a specific problem/subject. And, of course, the knowledge the tutor provides will be a main achievement and a perfect indicator of progress.…

To give the student confidence and show them that the subject is not beyond their understandings. Prove that It's not difficult but needs to be approached correctly. It depends a little bit on age but the older they get the more important confidence is going to be and giving the students confidence is the most important job. I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to keep the student engaged. Often students in tutoring are behind in work because they lose focus in a classroom or simply find it boring. Danni was great and the girls were very happy with her.
Chris, Subiaco

Inside SubiacoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Sophia worked through division of fractions and simple interest problems, then tackled introductory trigonometry with guided practice.

For Year 10, Ethan completed a review of quadratic functions and practised trig questions from Chapter 11 using diagrams to reinforce concepts.

In Year 11, Chloe focused on dividends and price-earnings ratios in financial maths, also comparing share prices with real-world examples for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided writing out working in algebra, which made it hard to catch sign errors—"I suggested she write each step," the tutor noted.

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student struggled with organizing notes and remembering formulas without looking them up, so tests were planned at lesson start to check recall.

A tired Year 9 learner lost focus during revision and gave up on multi-step problems; snack breaks helped regain attention but progress slowed.

Another senior English student skipped practicing timed essays and left homework incomplete, leading to repeated pauses when structuring arguments under pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Subiaco tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, started speaking up mid-lesson when she got stuck—making it much easier to clarify tricky algebra steps together.

A Year 12 student who previously mixed up integration techniques is now confidently choosing the right method and can sketch derivatives without prompting, showing real independence in her calculus work.

In a recent session with a Year 4 student, the tutor observed that he's begun using the number line unprompted for negative integers and managed several challenging questions solo by the end of their lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Subiaco Primary School.
