The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them understand what they themselves cannot. I believe it is a tutors job to also provide resources but the most important thing is to actually teach them what they cannot understand and once the tutor has done that then they can provide the adequate worksheets and past papers to…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be absolutely certain that his student really understand the topic which they explained and have no confusions or doubts in their mind. My most important strength as a tutor is understanding myself the specific point where a child is facing difficulty to grasp the topic and then clearing…

A tutor’s most important role is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel safe asking questions and confident in their understanding of the content. By fostering an open and judgment-free space, I encourage students to engage actively with the material, ensuring they fully grasp concepts rather than simply memorizing…

All my previous students have thanked me for teaching them the foundations, filling in any gaps before continuing on with new material. This gave them confidence in the subject and helped them achieve the highest grades in their academic career. It also provided them with an optimism to life, since if by doing well in school, they could see…

The most important things a tutor can do is instil a sense of confidence and belief in the student encouraging them to possess a positive disposition to solving real world issues. My strengths are to use abstract and concrete operational concepts through real world applications making the outcomes relevant to the…

I believe ensuring the student understands and takes away a good learning experience each session. I believe working on the child’s weaknesses and progressing their strengths is important for their learning experience. My strengths are being able to explain topics in different ways for students. Especially in PDHPE and Business Studies I…

Stay patient, some topics are just harder for certain students to understand. Having the enthusiasm for the kids to reflect so they are motivated to learn and loving what you teach. Communication, imagination, being able to explain an idea or theory in many ways, and…

We are very happy with Vyncianne. I think her style of tutoring is going great with Aleisha.

Inside Sun ValleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Alexia worked on simplifying algebraic equations and practiced multiplying and dividing algebraic expressions using worksheets ahead of an upcoming test.

For Year 11, Thomas focused on Financial Maths by calculating tax, the Medicare levy, taxable income, and potential tax refunds.

Meanwhile, Year 9 Emily revised surface area calculations for cylinders and applied Pythagoras' Theorem to solve geometry problems in preparation for her assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student repeatedly forgot to bring the correct notes and worksheets for financial maths, which slowed progress when tackling tax calculations—"She couldn't attempt practice questions without her formula sheet," a tutor noted.

In Year 8 algebra, one student revised only familiar problems but avoided multi-step or mixed-topic questions, missing out on learning how to spot sign errors with negatives.

Meanwhile, a primary student hesitated to show working for spelling activities, erasing attempts instead of asking for help when unsure. This made it harder to identify patterns in mistakes during review sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Sun Valley tutor noticed Tariq, a high school student, moving from needing step-by-step help with percentages to accurately calculating them independently by multiplying decimals and fractions by 100—a real leap after early uncertainty.

Isabelle, also in high school, recently tackled tricky perimeter and area problems involving cylinders and trapeziums; she was able to work through new formulas patiently until she got most questions right without prompting.

Meanwhile, Charbel in Year 3 has started reading aloud more confidently and now recognises the structure of sentences—he even pointed out capital letters and full stops on his own during a storybook session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Blue Mountains Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blue Mountains Grammar Preparatory School campus.
