What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The thing I enjoy most about tutoring is the way I can leverage my past experiences of sitting the HSC and offer it to a student that was once me. I enjoy seeing them benefit from advice I wish I got sooner and in return, allowing them to not make the same mistakes that I did. An example of this is if I were tutoring an English student for the HSC, I would remind them to consistently gain feedback from their teachers for every essay leading up to the HSC. This way they are persistently improving their essay and not procrastinating the writing phase. I would then enjoy seeing them excel.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My greatest strengths as a tutor are most definitely my deep understanding and communication skills. This includes not only my academic understanding of the subjects I will tutor, but also my understanding that not everyone will instantly get a topic the first time around. Thus, I am able to adjust to the student’s needs and spend longer on a topic they struggle until they completely grasp it. I achieve this by using my communication skills I have gained from past professional experiences and rephrase the way I explain a topic.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important things a tutor can do for a student is always be patient and adjust to their needs. Often times I see tutors I have previously had stick to a strict guideline set by the centre, not knowing most of us (students) are struggling since they are going too fast. As this role is 1 on 1, this is more important than ever. A tutor needs to understand the student’s weaknesses and allocate more time to assisting in their understanding of a certain topic. Adjusting to their needs means the tutor actively asks questions to the student, and if unable to answer, means more time is needed.

About Dane
High-achieving maths and English role model students relate to
Dane is a top-performing senior student, consistently ranking in roughly the top 15% of his large year group and holding multiple academic achievement awards. He has strong results in mathematics competitions and has excelled in reading, earning a prestigious reading challenge medal. As a recent HSC graduate, he understands current syllabuses, exam styles and what it takes to move from “doing OK” to excelling. This tutor uses his own study methods to help students build strong foundations in maths and English.
Leadership, mentoring and communication experience
Beyond the classroom, Dane has taken on leadership roles that translate directly into effective tutoring. He has served as a media team director, coordinating peers and clearly explaining tasks, and has acted as a support buddy for younger students, helping them settle into high school life. Through his time in a youth cadet program, he has practised motivating others and guiding them through challenging activities. These experiences mean he can explain ideas patiently and adapt his communication to different ages and personalities.
Organised, disciplined and relatable to modern students
Dane balances academics with sport and co-curricular commitments, showing strong time-management and reliability—qualities he brings to every tutoring session. His involvement in a philosophy group shows he enjoys big ideas and careful reasoning, which he weaves into problem-solving in maths and critical thinking in English. He likes to share concrete tools such as exam-planning strategies, note-taking templates and step-by-step problem breakdowns so students feel more confident, organised and in control of their learning.
