What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I find most enjoyable about tutoring is seeing the increase in confidence in students once they start to understand concepts that they previously found intimidating. I find it especially rewarding to break down complex ideas into simpler concepts and watch as things "click" for them. I enjoy building a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions without being scared or embarrassed. Having tutored students in challenging circumstances, I know how powerful patience and encouragement can be.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My biggest strength as a tutor is the ability to cater to a student's individual needs. This is evidenced by my time tutoring children suffering from terminal illness at AIN Society. I recognize that teaching does not just entail academics. Tutors must also be compassionate, flexible, and adapt to a student's physical and emotional capacities. I can easily adapt a lesson to suit any individual student and still encourage them to learn. I do not enforce a rigid structure but rather meet students in the middle to create a supportive learning environment.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is build up their confidence while teaching them concepts. A tutor should not be harsh and instil fear in students in order for them to learn a concept. I have learnt from my time tutoring as well as being a peer mentor in my uni society that students learn best when they feel encouraged and supported. Beyond explaining content, tutors should help students develop problem-solving skills and independent thinking so they can succeed on their own.

About Sheelav

Maths & Computing Tutor with Real Teaching Experience

Sheelav is a maths and computing tutor with hands-on experience teaching a long-term student in mathematics and computer science. Over a year of one-to-one support, he learnt how to break down complex ideas like algebraic reasoning and coding logic into simple, step-by-step explanations. He is patient, attentive, and used to adapting lessons to a student’s energy levels and health needs, making him particularly good at working with students who may need a bit of extra care or flexibility.

Strong Academic Foundation in Advanced Maths and Problem-Solving

Currently studying Computer Science and Commerce with a distinction average, this tutor brings a solid grounding in advanced algebra, calculus and logical problem-solving. He regularly uses tools such as data visualisation and programming to tackle real-world problems, and he draws on this to show students how maths connects to everyday life and technology. Parents can expect structured lessons, clear goals, and plenty of practice questions that build both accuracy and confidence over time.

Engaging Mentor Who Builds Confidence and Communication

Beyond academics, Sheelav has mentored several students and peers through formal mentoring programs and youth initiatives. He has led training for small groups, guided first-year students through academic challenges, and chaired debate-style conferences that sharpened his communication and explanation skills. In tutoring sessions, he uses these experiences to encourage questions, get students talking through their reasoning, and build their independence. His calm, organised style helps students feel comfortable, heard, and motivated to improve.
