What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I haven't done any tutoring recently but when I was in school I was part of a reading tutoring program and it was so great to build a relationship with the kids and see their progress over time.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I am patient and appreciate that often things might need to be explained in a couple of different ways before it clicks and there is a proper understanding.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think striving to make sure students get a range of explanations so they properly understand the concepts they are studying. It's very hard to remember things when you're only going through the motions and don't truely understand.

About Miah

Creative communicator with strong humanities focus

Miah is currently studying a humanities-based degree and brings a thoughtful, big-picture approach to helping students with English and writing. Her background in music performance and philosophy means she is used to interpreting complex ideas and turning them into clear, engaging stories – a skill she uses to help students improve essays, reading comprehension and analytical writing. This tutor enjoys finding real-world examples and creative prompts so that even reluctant readers can see the point of what they are learning.

Patient, empathetic support for diverse learners

Through her regular music visits to aged-care residents, Miah has developed strong interpersonal skills, patience and the ability to read how someone is feeling and adjust her approach. She is calm, kind and observant, taking time to understand how each student learns best. Whether a child is anxious, easily distracted or lacking confidence, this tutor focuses on small, achievable steps and clear explanations so they feel safe to ask questions and comfortable making mistakes.

Organised sessions that build confidence and independence

With several years of experience organising gigs, managing her own invoicing and helping to run community events, Miah brings excellent organisation to her tutoring. She likes to set simple goals for each session, track progress and show students how far they have come. This tutor uses structured lesson plans, checklists and practice questions to build solid skills in English and early high-school humanities, while also teaching students how to plan their own study and take more ownership of their learning.
