What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

Watching a concept click. Most students who struggle with maths aren't bad at it, they've just missed one idea that everything else builds on. Finding that idea and seeing the student's approach change from guessing to reasoning is the most rewarding part, and it's what I enjoyed when mentoring younger students at school and in music.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I sat the HSC last year, so I know the current syllabus and exam style first-hand. I can tutor Mathematics from Year 7 up to Year 11 Advanced and Year 12 Extension 1 (98/100) and Extension 2 (96/100). I'm patient, I explain things step by step, and I adjust my language to the student's age and confidence, which I practised as a Year 9-10 mentor leader.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Building understanding rather than just supply answers, so the student can handle questions they haven't seen before. Give honest, specific feedback on their working. And make the student feel safe asking questions, because confidence often limits results more than ability does.

About Sriram

My Background

I'm a first-year student at UNSW studying Computer Science and Actuarial Studies, having just finished the HSC in 2025 with 98/100 in Mathematics Extension 1 and 96/100 in Extension 2. I've spent several years mentoring younger students, so I know what it's like to be on both sides of a Maths lesson, recently as the student, and now as the tutor.

How I Teach

I focus on building real understanding rather than just supplying answers, so students can handle questions they haven't seen before, not just the ones they've practiced. I give honest, specific feedback on working, and I make sure students feel safe asking questions, since confidence often limits results more than ability does.

Outside the Classroom

Outside of tutoring and study, I'm building a few of my own tech projects and I sing Carnatic classical music. I bring that same patience and curiosity to tutoring. So Math makes a lot more sense once you stop being afraid of getting it wrong.
