1) listen to the student and the parent. students should be the ones doing the most talking and asking questions. Tutors job is to listen to the student and give them the help they need 2) help the student gain confidence in maths but also in study in general. Often if a student improves in one area it also carries over to other subjects. The skills gained in maths study will also help in other subjects. 3) work on weak areas, dont waste time on what the student is already good at.
