I can make the student not only competent, but also comfortable and confident in a certain topic. I understand how stressful hard subjects can be. I want to take away the feeling of fear when students enter a class they think they're not good in. Another thing is teaching a student to be an autodidact. I was fortunate enough to know this tactic…

First, I think a tutor should have good subject and curriculum knowledge so that they may be able to provide as much information as they can towards the kids. I think communication skills is another important thing a tutor must have (the way they explain the topics so that it is easy for the students to understand). Finally a tutor must be patient…

A tutor frames the way the students learn different things. As being experienced studying the same things, he/she can make the pathway of learning quite easier for the students. A tutor can be a friend and at the same time motivate students and teach them how to stay motivated. Not only this, a tutor can change the life of students by sharing…

Also, can make a proper timetable and show a way how to study strategically without getting bored or stressed I can easily amalgamate with my student as a friend and I think that's my most powerful side as a tutor. Above all else, I believe a tutor should prioritise student wellbeing. Beyond academic achievement, it's essential to foster a sense of belonging, confidence and self-worth in each student. This involves attentive listening, emotional support, and creating a safe, judgement-free space. Additionally, empowering students to take ownership of their…

A tutor is beyond someone that can just teach some topics to students, but they are someone that the student looks upto, and feels comfortable sharing their weaknesses to. It is essential for for the tutor to understand the child’s needs, and cater to those specifically. My strengths are that i have recently graduated high school, so I am very…

I want my students to leave each lesson feeling more capable than when they arrived. Every student learns differently, so I would take the time to…

I would say the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is helping them grow as individuals, and help them find a love for learning - a strong passion for the academic studies. A tutor needs to also serve as a good role model for the students, and be a person the student can trust to help them improve their grades. I would say my…

Taking initiative to bring the student out of their comfort zone. In a lot of cases, students fear showing their lack of knowledge, especially in group settings. In my humble opinion, I believe that ACTIVE LISTENING is the most important quality that good tutors must possess. - Good tutors must recognise that students generally have an idea of the topic at hand. Instead of simply continuing to "teach" it is vital that tutors ask students of their understanding of the topic so that gaps in knowledge can…

Wanted to take this opportunity to say how great Jeremy is! My daughter was incredibly nervous about having a male tutor but after the first session and moving forward, she feels completely comfortable, at ease and really enjoys her tutoring sessions with Jeremy. He has a very positive attitude and is very kind and encouraging towards Maycee's learning journey and for that we thank you all.... especially Jeremy!

Inside Victoria ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava revised Pythagoras' Theorem and practised solving right-angled triangle problems, then worked through trigonometry questions involving missing side lengths.

For Year 10, Jack focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as identifying transformations of functions using DESMOS.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia completed calculus work on optimisation problems and reviewed biology concepts like magnification and population density, making use of diagrams for visual understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often attempted to solve algebra and functions questions mentally, saying, "I can do this in my head," but skipped writing steps led to sign errors and confusion when rearranging equations.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a lack of thorough notes before assessments made it hard to recall details under pressure; as one tutor noted, incomplete plans "meant she had to memorise last-minute."

A Year 4 learner's messy written work in fractions obscured mistakes until feedback was given. In these moments, missed working or disorganised notes cost valuable marks and slowed improvement despite strong effort.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Victoria Park noticed one high school student who previously struggled with chemistry problem-solving now sets out her plans clearly and completes simple identification tasks almost entirely on her own.

Another win came from a Year 11 student who, after several attempts, managed to get the structural formula right—showing real persistence compared to his earlier hesitation with complex diagrams.

In a younger session, Scarlett used to rush through subtraction but now backchecks each answer aloud and finishes her homework with little need for guidance, recently getting every worksheet question correct without assistance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ursula Frayne Catholic College.
