Further, a tutor reinforces what the students have been learning at school. I am a teacher with 15 years of teaching experience. My last school was…

Tutoring is mainly about facilitating the students understanding of concepts, but the tutor should also aim to foster a drive in the student to understand why they are struggling with the respective topic and a will to seek a solution on their own. The tutor should eventually seek to equip students with self-awareness and a drive for…

Most important would definitely be effort towards a student. No student would want a tutor who does not have the best interest in them and would definitely not want a tutor who is giving 50% of their efforts. Another important thing a tutor can do for a student is show passion and that they care, and that they are someone the students can…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be a good role model. As tutors it is crucial to remember that many students often look up to us for guidance and advice. During a period of diverse growth, it is important that a tutor leads students onto the right path for future success. This means that a tutor must listen carefully to…

A tutor is a means of reassurance, while tutors aren't expected to be an all knowing textbook, students find reassurance knowing that someone with more knowledge and experience are within an arm's reach and are able to lend a hand. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. The most important role of a tutor is to transform a student’s mindset. Beyond teaching content, I aim to impart a genuine passion for the subject and build the self-belief that they are capable of mastering it. When a student stops saying 'I can't do this' and starts asking 'How do I solve this?', that is real success. As an Engineering Masters…

Teach them how to think for themselves and how to be critical of any situation so that they may find answers on their own. Teach them that values are more important than success in life. Being active when students are in need the most, answering questions as students ask them. It is important to ensure the student feels completely fine to express themselves and ask tutors any questions they may have, during and after the lesson. Inside VillawoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Adam worked on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators, as well as converting improper fractions to mixed numbers.

In Year 9, Sarah practised solving linear equations and inequalities, using graphing techniques to visualise solutions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jacob focused on surds and indices—including rationalisation—and tackled probability problems under exam-style conditions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly left homework incomplete, which led to confusion with formula recall during volume and area tasks; "she does not do her homework on the regular—this results in a lack of memory pegs," noted one tutor.

In Year 10, another student relied heavily on their calculator for basic arithmetic in algebra questions, missing opportunities to build mental fluency.

For a senior student working through complex surds and indices problems, unclear written working made it difficult to spot errors or understand reasoning upon review. This often resulted in extra time spent deciphering steps instead of progressing with revision.

Recent Achievements

One Villawood tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask questions—she now regularly pauses mid-problem to check her understanding, instead of pushing through in silence.

In Year 11 chemistry, another student made clear progress moving from confusion about endothermic and exothermic reactions to confidently explaining the difference and identifying examples on their own during revision.

Meanwhile, a primary school student who struggled with division last term has started memorising key steps and can now complete short division problems independently without prompts from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School.
