I consider the transference of inspiration to the student to be the most important and fulfilling thing a physics tutor can achieve. From inspiration births a work ethic, an attitude and an independence within the student that carries through their whole life. I believe that as an individual, you are your own CEO, CMO, CFO etc. As such, by…

I think the most important thing is to inspire them by making subjects at hand for them to be able to easily understand completely. I also believe to make them see the core values of knowledge in our lives. I as a tutor always help my students to strive for 100% by guiding them through their struggles. I have patience to see particularly my…

The best thing a physics tutor can do for a student is spark interest towards the subject matter and make the student more driven towards gaining a better understanding of the topic. My biggest strength would be how personable I am and how easily I can relate to the struggles that others are experiencing. This when combined with my well developed…

Tutor can be personal and professional assistant for the student and help them learn the difficult subjects in school. Also help them pass through difficult times. Some students may find it hard to grasp certain subjects in school and as such they might feel left out and depressed. Tutors are to help them and avoid such distressing situation.…

The most important thing is to understand how the student learns the best i.e. whether they are a visual leaner, audio learner etc and using those tools to help them improve in areas they lack and help them out overall. I have a lot of international experience working with different types of students and different age groups therefore I will be…

One of the most important things for me would be the tutor's ability to listen and understand a student's query patiently, as it influences how the same content can be tailored differently for a better understanding of the individual. Also, the ability to adequately motivate a topic helps students develop a higher interest and enjoy what they…

It is all about knowing the audience. Not all kids/students have the same skillset, some are good in memorizing, some are good in analogy, some are good in logic and arithmetic. So it's about knowing their strengths and align it in a way that it would enhance their ability to learn. I am very dynamic and very patient in terms of tutoring, the…

The tutor must be able to eliminate every question or doubt a student has on a subject or concept and enable the student to comprehend the information not just for scoring grades, but, for understanding and using the information in any scenario which requires it. Hence, the tutor must be able to inculcate this idea in the student and facilitate…

The most important aspect about tutoring is to be able to assess the ability of the students and tune the tutoring method accordingly. While some students can understand pretty quickly, there are students who require repeated teaching. The ultimate objective is to meet the expectations of students and parents. 1. I feel that a physics tutor can basically change a student's perception to a particular subject. A tutor has the power to build the foundations of a subject in a simplified and innovative way such that it is comprehended easily by the students. When it comes to teaching new concepts, I seldom go by the book. I think it is more important to give a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only boost their confidence in a subject, but also their enthusiasm for the subject. Students who are struggling and as a result lose interest…

Inside YarralumlaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Kornel completed lessons on scientific notation and significant figures, as well as constructing and solving simple linear equations using worksheets.

In Year 10, Ruby focused on manipulating and graphing parabolas, followed by work on factorising and expanding quadratics.

For Year 11, Lucas spent recent sessions tackling arithmetic and geometric progressions—using both formulas and step-by-step practice—and then moved into exploring sums of geometric series in preparation for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly arrived at lessons without key materials, such as a stock market worksheet needed for reference; as one tutor observed, "he said it was with his mum," making it difficult to build on previous work efficiently.

In Year 10 Maths, homework was often incomplete, leading to lesson time being used for revision of concepts like algebraic manipulation that should have been consolidated independently.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner hesitated to attempt unfamiliar questions out of fear of mistakes, sometimes skipping items or waiting for help instead of giving them a go—progress stalled until confidence was rebuilt through guided practice.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Yarralumla noticed a big shift with one Year 9 student who, after previously being hesitant to ask for help, has started openly pointing out confusion during algebra lessons—this change means tricky topics now get sorted much faster.

In a recent high school session, another student surprised himself by constructing equations independently from worded problems, something he'd avoided before because he found it overwhelming.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner used visual techniques to tackle time zones and finished the lesson confidently reading both times aloud.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kingston Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yarralumla Primary School.
