Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. I am proud of my ability to teach and explain concepts to others effectively and…

Listen to their ideas and help them realise how they can be moulded to fit the criteria that is set for them to meet. This is also coming from my own perspective of what I'd expect, as most times teachers impose their ideas on students and they are left alone to not be able to think for themselves. I can explain concepts quite well, and I make…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. I believe it is important for tutors to build students' confidence and boost their self-esteem. It is important to acknowledge that a student is doing well when they truly are; to encourage them to be resilient when it gets tough. This way students are able to conquer any challenge without fear which enables them to learn more effectively. This…

Inside YennoraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Alex practised counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s as well as tackling simple addition problems above 10.

In Year 9, Mia worked through linear equations and inequalities, focusing on graphing lines and interpreting solutions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Jayden explored trigonometry topics including bearings and directions, using exact values with trig ratios to solve application questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Mathematics, one student's tendency to rely on a calculator for basic arithmetic slowed their progress with fractions—"she reached for the calculator even on single-digit sums," as noted.

A Year 10 student often left working out messy or incomplete during algebraic problem solving, which led to confusion and repeated errors when reviewing homework.

In Senior Mathematics, several students only practiced familiar question types in revision sessions, avoiding more challenging "word-dense" probability and surds problems; this meant they missed exposure to complex exam-style tasks.

Missed opportunities to use feedback or self-correct resulted in persistent misunderstandings.

Recent Achievements

One Yennora tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to use her calculator now reaching for it confidently when tackling more complex algebraic questions, showing new independence in problem-solving.

In another high school session, a student who used to struggle with linear equations began working through simultaneous equations without prompting, asking the tutor to check only their final answers rather than every step.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student was able to read aloud fluidly using their finger as a guide—a small but important change after earlier difficulties keeping track on the page—culminating in them finishing an entire chapter without losing their place.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fairfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Yennora Public School.
