Beyond providing knowledge, I believe a tutor can give good study habits for the students and personalized feedback that they can look back on in the long run. For me, tutoring was also the experience of learning and being able to train my understanding beyond just grasping the subject material. I can break concepts down to an understandable…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to explain concepts clearly, break tasks into manageable steps, and help students build confidence and independence. A good tutor should also give constructive feedback, encourage questions, and make sure the student understands the material rather than simply memorising answers. Supporting…

Every student has their own style of learning. As a Tutor, adapting to their learning style is the most crucial factor. I can relate the subject to real-life situations which can help the students to understand the concept better. I can adapt to the student's pace of learning and teach them…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to make studying not feel like a boring task. The more fun a class is, the more likely it is that the student will put in extra effort in the subject. Also, an environment with healthy competition is necessary for maximising the output of each individual. As I have recently completed my schooling, I…

Empathy. Teaching is fundamentally a transfer of knowledge, but that transfer only works if you first understand how the student thinks, where they're stuck, and what's making them anxious or disengaged. A good tutor adapts their explanation to the student's learning style rather than repeating the same approach that didn't work the first time.…

The tutor has so many key responsibilities and actions to do. As he/she needs to aware that individuals are understanding, there should be effective communication, setting realistic goals, creating a supportive environment and also providing them a constructive feedback. The most important thing a tutor can do is to perhaps approach the situation from the student’s perspective and try to understand the thought process of the student and where they’re coming from. This is beneficial in conveying any topic across to students from any grades. I’ve always loved tutoring and have been a great tutor to my friends,…

I feel the most important things a tutor can do: understand the student, make learning fun and clear and build confidence in them. I would first listen to the student, understand where they feel difficult, go along with their pace and make the student do a lot of thinking. This way it would help the student build confidence in them, make concepts…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to kindle in them a curiosity for the world around them and to guide them in looking for answers. I do not believe in the teach-to-test approach. Instead, I believe that teaching should not be compared to filling a bottle with water but rather to helping a flower grow in its own way. As…

Effective communication with the student is one of the most important things a tutor can do. After the first months of tutoring passed by I noticed that what most students necessitate was a method, a fixed pattern to follow whilst studying. Then, my objective became to teach students how to learn properly: my aim was to assist them in finding their own way of studying and learning. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence and self trust, as this often leads to improved performance. I also give students breaks when…

I am aware that there are intelligent people who are easily able to surpass me in knowledge, but I believe that to effectively teach and learn, one must have a sufficient level of empathy. The most important thing a tutor can do is to create an environment in which the pupil feels encouraged to ask questions. Without a certain degree of security or familiarity, most kids are too nervous or shy to ask questions and thus are left with a minimalistic understanding of a topic, instead of the deeper understanding they could gain by…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence and adapt lessons to their learning style. Zacharo, Albert Park

Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
