For me it is important for tutor to be able to encourage and make the student enjoy learning. Because in order for students to learn faster, they would need to be willing to digest the new knowledge and information given by the tutor. Furthermore, it is important for tutor to look at a problem from many different perspective, because one point of…

The tutor has so many key responsibilities and actions to do. As he/she needs to aware that individuals are understanding, there should be effective communication, setting realistic goals, creating a supportive environment and also providing them a constructive feedback. I am good in teaching and received very good compliment from my colleagues…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empower them with the skills and confidence to become independent learners. This involves not only imparting knowledge but also teaching critical thinking skills, problem-solving strategies, and effective study habits that will serve them beyond the tutoring sessions. I may excel at…

A tutor should adapt their teaching to the student's individual needs, ensuring complex topics are broken down into understandable concepts. Encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is to promote understanding instead of memorizing along with building confidence with positive reinforcement and a personal level of bonding. Every student thinks and understands information and problems differently, my greatest strength is patience as I do not give up until the student gains full…

Allowing the students to display the knowledge they have learnt is important to ensure that they indeed have learnt. There is always a chance the student just says they are fine with the content in the rush to move on, but giving them the time to explain what they have learnt will ensure the session has been effective. My patience gives the…

Being understanding of students' learning experiences; whether it is confident about the topic or frustrated and disappointed when they don't yet "get it", the perspective helps me more likely able to keep a student's learning energy alive, thus more efficiently helping them. Though unfortunate, it is understandable and very human to easily…

I believe that not all students learn at the same pace but all students have their own strengths and potential. With the right guidance, students can maximize their strengths. It is creating an environment that will bring out the potential of each student. It is guiding the students in building their study habits, gaining their confidence and…

The best tutors and educators remember the importance of being lifelong learners. I feel a tutor can help the student by personalizing the learning according to the needs of the student by incorporating connections to the students' interests. A tutor must teach to the student's strengths and minimize the student's weaknesses. Tutors should…

In my opinion, learning and getting good grades are two things that complement each other. Once students have a firm grasp of the knowledge points in the learning phase, then they will have enough confidence to cope with the exam. As a tutor, you need to help students absorb knowledge more easily at the stage of learning knowledge. For example,…

Learning is all about association. You cannot go to C without having to go through A and B. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to focus on the basics first and only if the basics are clear should the tutor proceed with the new concepts. Individual attention to each student and identifying their individual…

As per my opinion, I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to be their friend and guide and help them as their friend. One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be proud of all the improvements the student has done. It's not about congratulating them for being a high achieving student. Instead, we should congratulate them for any improvement that they have done, since that is one step closer to success. I believe one of my strengths is…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. Never give up on students. Some students may be fairly poor in understanding certain difficult topics and terms, but the teacher or tutor is responsible to try every possible way to let the student understand the concept. Inside ArmadaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 Dishita focused on interpreting time-series data, including mean-smoothing and deseasonalisation techniques, and practiced applying the 68-95-99.7 rule for normal distributions using exam questions.

Year 11 Emily worked through scatterplots and transformations in statistics, consolidating skills by tackling residuals and regression problems from recent school assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 10 Josh revised financial mathematics concepts such as compound interest calculations and explored surface area and volume of composite shapes through targeted textbook exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3–4, one student often attempted times tables and complex multiplication mentally rather than writing out working, which led to confusion and missed steps—she sometimes forgets to add zeros when moving to the next line.

Notably, in VCE Maths (Year 12), a different student relied on reading exam questions quickly without highlighting key information or taking structured notes. As noted: Needs to read the question carefully. Use a sheet of paper to track reading.

In both cases, skipping systematic written processes made it harder to spot errors and slowed progress during challenging tasks or under exam conditions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Armadale recently saw Dishita, a Year 12 student, begin using the 'talk-aloud' strategy to break down complex standardised score questions—something she previously found daunting. She's now highlighting key details in exam problems and independently choosing the right formulas.

Meanwhile, Rose (Year 6) has moved from needing step-by-step support with long division to confidently solving multi-digit problems and tackling time conversion questions with little prompting.

For a younger learner, Jacob is no longer relying solely on his number line for single-digit addition; he now attempts mental calculations first and checks his work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Malvern Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The King David School - The Rebecca Magid Centre.
