The most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is providing as much information as they can. Answer their questions, solve their problems, and make sure that they really understand the material. I am a very good listener. When a student is facing difficulty, I believe the problem is communication. Talk to them and try to find out what is…

I believe that learning isn't about rushing through content, but about facilitating comprehension at each student's pace. My mission goes beyond delivering lectures - I am committed to ensuring…

It is essential for a tutour to try and ensure that they empower their student, by instilling confidence in them regarding their own ability. Also, a tutour must ensure that they are dealing with a student's queries with patience and dedication. As a tutour, I believe I am great at establishing a bond with my student, which is a really important…

Understanding that each student has a unique learning style and tailoring lessons to meet their needs is essential. A tutor should provide clear explanations, encourage critical thinking, and foster a positive learning environment. The most important thing is to get a student interested in the topic. Ability to inspire is what people remember about good teachers decades after school. Second is explaining tricky ideas. Third is building self-confidence. Ability to explain, patience, finding interesting examples. I would test a student's knowledge of each topic before moving…

It is important to be patient and approachable so that students feel comfortable coming to you with their queries. Availability and dependability is also important. If a student has last minute issues the night before their exam it is important that they can rely on their tutor to get back to them by the end of the day with an answer. I am patient…

A tutor is more than a teacher. A teachers job is to give a student a base level of understanding whereas a tutor can build on that and go further. This allows students to revisit sections that the teacher brushed over or to build on sections they seemingly understand to ensure they can answer a greater range of question types. Along with the…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build a foundation of confidence and independent thinking. Rather than simply providing the correct answers, a tutor should guide a student through the logic of a problem so they can eventually solve it on their own. It is also vital to build a strong rapport where the student feels…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student involve making the student understand the concepts at a deep level, rather than tutoring them solely for the purpose of achieving higher grades. I believe a good tutor should remove the fear of a subject, if any, from a student's mind and encourage them to learn in more detail, while providing…

I think the key thing a tutor can do for a student is ensure that their individual learning habits are in order, creating an essential degree of independence. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student believe they are capable. A lot of students have already decided they are bad at the subject, so rebuilding that confidence comes first. From there it is about helping them understand the thinking behind an answer, not just the answer itself. If they only memorise a method they…

Inside AshfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ekam worked on fractions, including addition and multiplication, and then applied these skills to measurement topics such as distance, speed, and time using worded problems.

In Year 10, Alex tackled trigonometric equations involving multiple quadrants and explored data concepts like skewness and interpreting box plots.

For Year 12, Priya focused on integrating exponential functions as well as applying calculus to graphing tasks by finding stationary points on curves.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3, there were repeated challenges with remembering area and perimeter formulas—one session noted "despite having already written down the formula over and over again, [he] seems to be uninterested and not focused in class," which led to forgotten content week-to-week.

By Year 11, skipped steps became visible in working for median questions: a tutor remarked, "skipped steps in working here and there leading to careless mistakes."

In senior years, missed homework and reliance on tutor guidance limited independent understanding; during trigonometric identities revision (Year 12), incomplete set-out hid errors until feedback was given.

Confidence sometimes dipped after setbacks, causing quietness rather than seeking clarification.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ashfield noticed that a Year 8 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with probability questions now speaks up as soon as he's unsure, leading him to solve more problems independently.

A Year 12 student demonstrated a real shift by revising and annotating his assignment before submission, making specific improvements based on feedback rather than submitting straight away—a big change from past rushed work.

Meanwhile, one younger student recently completed all of his homework correctly for the first time this term and was eager to show how he'd checked each answer himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ashfield Public School.
