The most important role is to build understanding and confidence. A good tutor should create a comfortable environment where the student should feel free to ask questions, identify gaps in their knowledge, and gradually making students capable of solving problems on their own. I focus on helping students understand the reasoning behind concepts or…

I think patience is the biggest key factor as without that there can be no way a tutor could help a student. Learning new things can be tricky and scary which is why a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning pace, be able to communicate thoroughly and also make the learning experience a fun one I am a very patient person which I…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student want to study the subject, instead of relying on others for help. In other words, building a foundation of passion for the subject. I believe that my strengths are trying to get the student to not just repeat practice questions, but also try to understand the…

Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As a tutor sitting 1-1…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are: 1) provide clarity, 2) build confidence, and 3) foster independent thinking. A good tutor doesn't just help students get the right answers, they help students understand the process and develop the skills to tackle future challenges on their own. Encouraging students to ask questions, think…

I believe a tutor should create a positive and encouraging environment where the student feels safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn at their own pace. A tutor should also provide clear, step-by-step explanations, breaking down complex concepts into simpler, digestible parts. Lastly, tailoring lessons to student's specific needs and…

The most important things to do as a tutor for a student is to make sure that the student fully understands the concept being taught to them, and there are several ways to ensure this. A tutor's primary aim is to instill confidence in the student. Students seek tutors for a variety of reasons. Maybe the student is struggling and needs someone to explain things more clearly. A wise and patient tutor will do that, and the student will feel more confident; that they can do it! Some students come to tutoring with no real problems,…

A tutor is responsible for motivating a student in order to achieve excellent grades. A tutor does not only train a student academically but also guides them to the right path in life by sharing their own experiences. I would consider demonstrating openness and listening to the needs of a child to be a positive trait for a tutor. I am definitely…

Doing everything possible to get the true picture of the subject matter to the understanding of the student. The first thing would be to establish a plan of goals and expectations and help the student identify their role in this plan. Once a tutor has an idea of the expectation of the parents/school/ students then only can progress take shape, and this might have many forms and variations as to how this is executed as the student grows or stalls. So,…

Local Reviews

Angela has been tutoring our daughter for several weeks now and we think she is amazing. We have seen a huge improvement in our daughters math work. Angela puts a lot of thought and effort into her lesson planning eg. bringing worksheets, a white board, worksheets and visuals to make things easier for our daughter to learn. Angela also has a very gentle, patient and friendly manner which is also very important to us. We are so happy with Angela and highly recommend her.
Debbie, Attadale

Inside AttadaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Charlotte focused on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as tackling measurement conversions such as millimetres to kilometres.

In Year 8, Olivia worked through area and circumference of circles using formulae, alongside practice with surface area and volume for composite shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ben reviewed indices rules and prime factorisation to determine if a fraction would become a recurring or terminating decimal.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when faced with multi-step fraction and percentage problems, hesitated to show her working—leading to confusion about which operation to use next. As a tutor noted, "she sometimes slips up with applying the correct operation (+, –, ×, ÷) to a line of working."

In Year 10 algebra lessons, another student avoided writing steps for rearranging equations; this slowed progress as small sign errors went unnoticed until checking answers at the end.

Meanwhile, missed sessions without notice (noted in Years 6 and 9) meant gaps in revision and lost opportunities for targeted feedback before upcoming tests.

Recent Achievements

One Attadale tutor noticed Poppy, a high school student, taking real initiative with algebra—she's now more comfortable rearranging equations and is starting to solve for x with less prompting than before.

Chloe, also in high school, has become much quicker at converting fractions to equivalent forms when adding or subtracting, something she used to hesitate over.

Meanwhile, Riva in primary school was excited to show off her mastery of the grid strategy for double- and triple-digit multiplication; this time, she applied it independently across several problems without needing reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as AH Bracks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Attadale Primary School.
