The best thing teachers can do if their students are struggling is approach their learning in a personalized way, really getting to know their habits and specific challenges they face. There's nothing like having that one person who knows your study habits inside out, especially when it comes to science. Unfortunately, in classrooms, that's not always possible.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Molly has taken a good liking to the strategies taught during lessons, such as Talking Aloud, Transfer Skills, Back Checking and Okay To Be Wrong. These strategies when encouraged at a young age can help them persist into the higher year levels, where they continue to be helpful for the student. This is particularly true when undertaking problem solving tasks.
Lara has a positive, can-do attitude toward learning. I believe that with more hours committed toward revising preliminary content, as well as new content (HSC) that we go over in our sessions would be extremely beneficial. Even though holidays are a time to relax, they are also a great time to set routines that would be of benefit during the school term. Creating a study schedule now and sticking to it (during times you know you will be available next term) would be great.
Some algebra skills need to be more frequently practiced to minimise the errors in the solution. Sophie needs more practise on some fundamental algebra skills such as expanding the bracket and multiplication, division involving fraction and negative numbers.
It is going very well. Katie is a truly lovely person. Cassandra has responded well. It is going as well as it can. Cassandra is naturally avoidant of the subjects that she is being tutored in, currently with Katie we are doing one week on Maths and the following week on English and so on. Cassandra engages in the tutoring, and does seem to learn, despite her being sure that she doesn't need a tutor. My partner and myself are very busy at the moment and don't have time to tutor her ourselves, besides, she doesn't like to listen to us, whereas, she will sit beautifully with the tutor. So it really works in that way.
Thanks for your note. It seems to be off to s good start. We appreciate maths coaching and look forward to seeing Louisa and India work together.
As far as I know, the tutoring is going well. They actually meet at Sydney University library as it is a handy meeting point for both of them and a good place for them to work. I believe that they have a good understanding between them but I will talk to Georgina again today after her lesson.
