I believe the most important thing a tutor/teacher can do for their students is to help them discover their true potential, eradicate doubt and hone their abilities in what may otherwise seem an impossible task. As a tutor, I believe I can help my students overcome any challenge they face in their studies, by teaching concepts in a way that they…

An excellent tutor does more than just give answers; they also help students understand difficult ideas, adjust to their preferred learning method, and promote critical thinking. They help pupils become more self-assured, make studying interesting, and foster an environment where they feel free to ask questions. In order to guarantee that students…

To get them engaged and interested in a subject or topic. Although it is good to just teach the student how to pass the exam, I believe that by truly engaging and motivating a student they will get the most reward and the best results from their work. I have very strong communication skills and have constantly proved to be able to build a rapport…

Tutoring is not only a job to help students with their specific problems but also developing study structures to effectively help the student long term, mindsets and strategies to allow the students to tackle…

Build their confidence as much as their knowledge because a lot of students struggle not because they are incapable, but because they are convinced themselves they can’t do it. Beyond that, I think it’s important to teach a student how to think through a problem rather than just giving them the answer. The goal is to make them capable enough…

I consider empathy and understanding as one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. When a tutor understands how the students feel, it is easier to teach them efficiently. My empathetic nature means when they are succeeding, I feel as I am succeeding too. My strengths as a tutor are my ability to cater to others needs. I am…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide personalized help, boost their confidence, and make learning enjoyable. To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. An empowering tutor equips…

I believe a tutor's role goes beyond helping students achieve good grades. The most important thing would be to be able to empathise with the student and be not just a tutor but also a mentor. This means being optimistic even when things don't work out as envisioned, and expending extra effort to make…

A tutor can help build a child's confidence in their own abilities. They can inspire them to learn and can crucially create an environment of nurture and care. Most importantly, a tutor can encourage a love for learning that helps create the foundations of a successful student. By equipping students with the tools required to improve their…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to believe in them, encourage them, and remind them that failure is a natural part of the learning process. A tutor should always remember that their purpose is to help the student understand and love the subject and not do the work for them. They should try to help the student gain passion and curiosity for the concepts they learn. This will help them study and ace the subject. Furthermore, I believe that the most important thing a tutor should have…

Local Reviews

Audrey, Balmain

Inside Balmain EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Charlie reviewed mean, median, mode and tackled Interquartile Range, then moved on to constructing and interpreting box plots using recent test questions.

Year 9 student Emma practised solving simultaneous equations and reinforced her understanding of algebraic equations through targeted problem sets.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ava focused on compound interest calculations and depreciation problems in maths, working through real-world scenarios for extra clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student struggled with reading worded geometry questions fully, leading to missed key details—"she is still struggling picturing the different scenarios from the word questions," noted a tutor.

In Year 11, failure to plan and condense history notes led to either excess information or critical gaps when revising for assessments.

For Year 8 algebra, skipping steps in rearranging equations hid sign errors and slowed progress.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student repeatedly forgot multiplication tables during fraction work, causing frustration mid-task and slowing confidence growth when tackling more complex problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Balmain East noticed a big shift for one Year 10 student who had previously missed key details in algebra questions; she now checks each problem more carefully and rarely skips important information.

In Year 8 maths, another student moved from confusion with multi-step percentage problems to independently solving even the longest ones without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 learner who once hesitated to read aloud tackled Level 11 and 12 books solo this week, finishing them with no help and even attempting the next level up.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balmain Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Nicholson Street Public School.
