I believe that the most important thing about an english tutor is their ability to motivate and encourage a student in their learning journey. A tutor must be able to show enthusiasm and positivity towards learning, and rather than using rote learning techniques, to engage the student so that they can demonstrate longevity in their education. It…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to teach them the joys of learning which not only improves their grades but also enables them to progressively and continuously yearn for a drive for knowledge that they can utilize in their ongoing future. Through my experience as a mentor as a Melbourne High School student, I was…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is always being patient with them and ensure they are comfortable with the pace they are studying at. I think feedback is important especially to continue striving in studies. I am patient and will take as long as I need to ensure a student is confident in anything they are…

In fact, I grew up having a few tutors but found that they all lacked one thing - constant support. I feel an english tutor should always make themselves available to assist their students outside of class hours. I also feel that tutors should never appear intimidating to their students. I am the lead altar server at my church, and all current…

It is being able to relate to students who struggle and find a way that works for them, not necessarily a way that only works for me. In my experience, a student needs an english tutor willing to adapt to their needs. A tutor can always keep track of their student's progress and help them achieve their goals. We are helping students achieve their…

Believing in the students is the most important thing an english tutor can do for their student. Some students may not believe in themselves and will need an extra boost or encouragement to believe they can do it as every student has the potential to do well. It all depends in the amount of motivation they have and how willing they are to put in…

Being understanding, confident and respectful are key aspects in an english tutor- student relationship. These three qualities ensure the reliability and integrity of the tutor. I also believe that showing my students I'm not always right is a good skill to teach (mostly these mistakes are unintentional). It is the manner in which one amends one's…

One of the most important things an english tutor can do for their student is boost their morale. As a student who got tutored, I was always embarrassed of receiving extra help with my subjects as I thought it meant I wasn't as smart as others. I was blessed to be tutored by a teacher who continuously reminded me that it was okay to be tutored as…

I think to provide a larger framework or paradigm for what they are learning. When something fits into a context for "why" they are learning a concept. Mainly being able to listen to the student. I think I'm enthusiastic about getting to know them and what they care about, which helps me teach. Rather than just trying to do a…

The most important thing is ensuring you build confidence in a students understanding of the subject as a whole as it is through this that a student would be able to face any questions that may be posed to them and have confidence within themselves that they are able to understand the topics given throughout their learning. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make him/her confident in their own abilities. Inside BangholmeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jaxxon worked on identifying number patterns and writing numbers as words, using practical worksheets to build confidence.

In Year 9, Olivia focused on statistics by calculating mean and standard deviation, then created timeline plots to represent data visually.

For Year 11, Ethan revised advanced trigonometry topics including the general solution for circular functions and practiced applying translations, dilations, and reflections to function graphs.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, skipping written working and using fingers for addition led to confusion in multi-step problems; as one tutor noted, "he should work on comprehending worded problems without assistance."

A Year 8 student often left out equal signs or brackets when setting out algebra, making it hard to spot errors later—some steps were done mentally then forgotten.

In VCE maths, a student's revision focused mainly on familiar finance formulas but avoided complex applications; trial SAC questions revealed that over-reliance on calculators sometimes caused missed settings like the degrees symbol.

Time lost reorganizing unclear working meant less chance to attempt challenging questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bangholme noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who used to hesitate when stuck; now, he immediately asks for help and keeps his notebooks organised without reminders.

In another high school session, a Year 10 student who previously struggled to show her working has begun writing out each step when solving equations—making fewer errors as a result.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student moved from guessing number patterns to confidently recognising and explaining them on her own, even tackling new problems without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Patterson Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mt Hira College.
