I personally think the most important thing would be to curate a session based on their student's learning style and guiding them to succeed in whatever subject they seek help with. On top of that, a tutor must also be willing to give it their all and be passionate about what they teach in order to boost the student's confidence and make them grow…

For me i guess a tutor is not just there to teach a simple or complex topic from a specific subject but a tutor can be helpful in guiding what career a student can opt and values like respect for elders and for their own self which i guess are way more important in life than any subject or topic. My strength is that i encourage students to learn a…

I believe an essential aspect to include in tutoring is helping students to develop metacognitive and study skills. In mainstream education, the uniqueness of student learning processes is often neglected. When I tutor students, I highly value teaching the specific study skills that will be most effective for them, imparting not merely content…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student are to increase their confidence in the subject, provide a solid base of understanding rather than just rote learning, try and dispel existing doubts and encourage a sense of discovery. I am an empathetic person and can relate to children feeling lost in some aspects of their learning.…

I believe one of the most vital things that tutors can do is alter their teaching type based on different students' abilities and progression over time. I think this helps differentiate tutoring from normal schooling as normal schooling is generalised for all students and doesn't cater for individual students' strengths and weaknesses. I believe…

I belive helping to build confidence is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. Confidence in one area can flow into other areas of study/life. A positive and supportive tutor can have influence on a students life in future years of study and life. Patience, understanding, positive attitude, growth mindset, dynamic. Understanding…

As a one-on-one teaching assistant with more than one year of experience, providing some notes and problem-solving skills to students, and the notes would not be covered by their school. Furthermore, the tutoring note would be based on the studying situation of different students, so the teaching notes would have strong pertinence and thus help…

To individualise teachings tailored to the needs of a given student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them see past exams and assessments and really understand what the concepts are and why they are studying them in the first place. I always to go through the theory really well first and subsequently tackle challenging problems and show how to break them into bite-sized pieces. Then…

Mladen Kopic, Boronia

Inside BoroniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Olivia worked through fractions and percentages using real-world examples, then moved on to practising long multiplication and division for improved accuracy.

Year 9 student Liam focused on mastering linear graphing techniques alongside trigonometry basics like SOH CAH TOA, including some bearings problems.

For Year 12, Emily tackled advanced calculus topics such as differentiation (chain, product, and quotient rules) and integrated practice with exam-style questions covering probability distributions and financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled to remember and implement area and volume rules, leading to slow progress during revision—"he needed tips on memorising these rules to feel more confident."

In Year 12, a lack of careful checking when solving integration problems resulted in using incorrect numbers and missed marks.

For a Year 8 lesson, one student's written working was often skipped or incomplete in algebra tasks, making it harder to spot errors and correct them quickly.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner hesitated to write answers for fear of mistakes, sometimes leaving questions unfinished after initial setbacks.

Recent Achievements

A Boronia tutor recently noticed a big shift for a Year 12 student who'd struggled with advanced differentiation: after needing lots of guidance last month, she worked through the latest book problems almost entirely on her own, only asking for help with one especially tough question.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 maths, another student who used to freeze up when graphing can now confidently draw and interpret graphs without prompting—last lesson she completed an entire set solo.

For a younger learner, mastering trickier times tables had always been daunting; this week he applied a new strategy independently and finished all his practice questions using it.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Boronia Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boronia K-12 College.
