From my personal experience, I believe helping students build good habits is key to a student's success. This can include underlining key terms and information, looking out for certain question types, or to show working out. I can break down complicated concepts to a level that matches the understanding of the person I'm helping. This makes it…

I believe that a tutor should be able to help the student both grow as a person and mentally with their learning. In a hindsight, a tutor is someone they can trust and rely on with regards to getting help for homework, learning new concepts, and getting advice regarding exam and assessment task preparations. So as such, if the tutor can enable a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient, understading and to listen. This allows for the student to be comfortable and be in a space where they can learn at an optimal rate and feel comfortable to ask any questions related to the work. I am understanding and have the ability to empathise with the student, allowing me…

I believe in these times students lack the confidence and motivation that studying requires. They are continuously forced to learn new concepts rapidly. I am an attentive individual who specializes in perfecting a steady and solid base before moving to complex information. in this way, the student is confident to create steady incremental progress…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empathise. It’s essential to understand how a student feels—whether it’s about the content itself or the teaching style being used. A tutor who can step into a student’s shoes is better able to identify their struggles, adapt their approach, and create a supportive learning…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student would be to bring confidence into them. I've learnt though school that it's not the level of intelligence of a student that matters, but their attitude towards the goals. Altering the ‘I can’t do this’ attitude by breaking down the hard topics would enable me to prepare them for the HSC…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to improve their studying skills and help them develop their confidence in their academics. This includes adapting the teaching style to one that best suits the student. Other methods include helping to create study timetables to allow students to become independent, split the workload, and…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student to be to foster a growth mindset. By creating a positive workplace where students are encouraged to ask questions, it enables students to take initiative over their own learning and not fear failure. This would foster faster improvements in their academics, whilst also improving…

Conneting and getting through. A boring teacher lacking passion and an ability to communicate will never properly tutor, whereas providing an environment for a student to grow and develop an understanding and even grow as a person maybe learn studying tips will be able to hold onto the taught knowledge better. I think I'm adament on getting ideas…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is provide them with motivation to move on and keep pushing. Since I know those times are not easy i reckon helping students get through with their maximum ability is crucial. I am very patient and I am willing to explain something as many times until the student has understood the concept.…

Clarify things not properly presented in class. What I consider to be the most important thing a tutor can do is to genuinely care for their students. This means that they take the time and effort to understand the student's capabilities and circumstances to help them in the best way possible. This can be through creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students are able to grow…

The most important thing a tutor can give to a student, I would say is give hope and ease the path they are taking. I have been teaching and mentoring for more than 7 years, and it is nice to see where my students have reached. The most important thing I can give a student is a space where they feel supported and capable. I want them to leave every lesson feeling more confident than when they walked in. A tutor is an important role and a mentor. Students select tutors because they have the enthusiasm to learn and perhaps do not have the resources needed which a tutor can fill in. I am calm, patient and have an insight to give my best so that people can benefit from me. I want children to excel and do well beyond they can dream…

Establishing an environment that the student would be comfortable to learn in is important. Inside Bow BowingTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Lachlan practised three-digit addition and subtraction along with multiplication, focusing on improving calculation speed.

For Year 8 Maths, Aryan tackled the basics of probability and chance, including sample space using everyday examples.

Meanwhile, in Year 10 Maths, Leon worked through financial maths topics from his textbook, particularly simple and compound interest problems and real-life money scenarios.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students in Bow Bowing showed process obstacles impacting progress.

For example, a Year 11 student tackling algebra and trigonometry relied heavily on calculators, missing sign errors—"he needs to be careful on his signs with algebra," as one tutor observed—which meant time spent correcting rather than learning new content.

In Year 9, another student struggled with exam-style questions due to messy working and not highlighting key information; their rushed approach left gaps when interpreting word problems.

Meanwhile, a primary student avoided written working for subtraction out of fear of mistakes, resulting in repeated confusion during practice sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Bow Bowing recently noticed Leon, a high school student, now independently translates worded maths problems into equations and chooses the right methods without prompting—a big shift from when he'd hesitate on each step.

Another high schooler, Vasati, has begun tackling percentage and fraction conversions using a calculator confidently; she used to avoid these questions altogether.

For a younger student, reading aloud has improved noticeably—she used to guess at tricky words but now stops to sound them out and checks their meaning before moving on. Last week, she read an entire page unassisted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greg Percival Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Andrews Public School.
