In my opinion, the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to build confidence and make learning approachable according to the learning style of the student. A tutor should be able to create a safe space where mistakes are okay and questions are encouraged. A tutor should guide the students to discover the answers rather than…

A tutor, i believe, “should†(rather than just “canâ€) keep the learner relaxed. They should ensure that the learner fully understands every concept in stages (what i like to call ‘staged implementation’). I also believe that a tutor should go through the basics thoroughly before jumping into potentially more complex…

The most important thing any sort of teacher or mentor can do for not just students, but anyone, is to make sure the students believe in themselves and their abilities, for that will take them beyond any test or assignment. What is also important is to make sure the students have fun while learning, for that will ensure that whatever they are…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is helping them develop an approach to learning new material or tackling unfamiliar problems and help them become more confident in their abilities. Equally important is helping students develop strong problem-solving skills rather than just teaching them…

I reckon fully understanding the student and approaching in an empathetic manner to help the student. Being a tutor is more than just teaching students subjects, as a role-model for them. I consider the most important things a tutor can do is not just to help the student understand the subject and hand, but also to inspire and motivate the student so they become more passionate about learning and strive to put in their best effort. In my opinion that would be helping a student discover their own motivation and confidence. By showing them what they’re truly capable of and helping them build on that, we can foster a sense of ownership over their learning and long-term growth. The most important thing a tutor can do is be patient. Every student learns differently and at their own pace, and if a concept doesn't click the first time, it's on the tutor to keep finding new ways to explain it rather than getting frustrated or rushing them. My biggest strength is being creative in how I explain things. If one explanation…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is that they have the drive and the patience for them until they learn. The whole point of why we tutor kids is for them to learn and apply what they know. You also need to love the student and take care of them as a mother does to their kids. My strengths as a tutor are: - I have patience…

I think the most important thing a teacher can do is really notice the student; not just notice their grades but also notice when they’re struggling, when they have potential they can’t yet recognize themselves, or when they need encouragement rather than explanations. I also believe in the theory that practice makes perfect; which is why I…

A tutor should give them the tools and the confidence to tackle any problem in the subject area. This means that the student should gain the skills to solve any problem in the subject area. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make a student feel comfortable enough to ask questions without worrying about feeling "behind" or judged and a lot of learning stalls when kids are too embarrassed to speak up, so building that trust comes first. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student feel supported and confident. Inside BurnleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sam worked through factorisation in algebra and solved chemistry mole calculation problems, using step-by-step examples to clarify each process.

For Year 10, Matt focused on structuring English essays by embedding quotes effectively and linking evidence to themes in "The Golden Age."

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Yasmine practiced plotting linear equations on a graph—finding coordinates and understanding why these equations form straight lines—by working through visual exercises together.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student in Mathematics often avoided writing out equations and working, relying on mental calculations—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors. This made it hard to spot where his reasoning broke down.

In Year 11 English, a student repeatedly left homework incomplete and didn't use highlighters or mindmaps for essay planning, missing opportunities to structure arguments more clearly.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 struggled with consistently bringing required books to lessons, disrupting focus at the start of each session.

During a Physics assignment in Year 12, brief answers were submitted without detail, limiting depth and understanding.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Burnley noticed Matt now completes all his English homework ahead of time and uses planning tables and flash cards to organise ideas—previously he'd only write brief notes and needed prompting.

In Year 10 Biology, another student who once hesitated with project tasks started volunteering creative ways to build a plant cell diorama after some encouragement.

Meanwhile, Yasin (Year 12) is showing real independence: instead of waiting for solutions, he's begun applying physics formulas by himself during lessons and checking his own answers before asking for help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Boroondara Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like SEDA College (Victoria) - FFV Burnley.
