To get them engaged and interested in a subject or topic. Although it is good to just teach the student how to pass the exam, I believe that by truly engaging and motivating a student they will get the most reward and the best results from their work. I have very strong communication skills and have constantly proved to be able to build a rapport…

Learning can be spilt into 3 parts. First being simply understanding the content without worrying about exams. Second being revising and coming up questions possible from the content and getting a deeper understanding. Third is looking at the exam questions and how to form the answer to get maximum marks. I am aware of different styles of learning…

One of the most important things is to ensure that a tutor is able to make the student comfortable during the lesson. Working in a suitable environment allows the student to perform at a higher performance. This includes bonding with the student and encouraging them whenever possible, providing positive reinforcement. Another important thing is…

I believe a tutor should always be reliable, punctual, patient, kind, and supportive - as this creates a safe learning environment for all students. I am newly graduated, meaning I still recall all the emotions and stresses of high school, and know the content and structure of various subjects extremely well. I excelled at my own school in English…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for their students is to build a relationship. This foundation will help students to have a trust in their tutor and this will encourage them to share their problems. If the tutor understands the exact problem the student is struggling with, then they can alter their teaching techniques according to…

To create a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Human connection is the foundation of effective learning. In a world flooded with online resources and AI-driven tools, what students often lack isn't access to information, but meaningful guidance. Tutors bring the human element back into learning by…

The most important things as a tutor is avoid giving shortcuts to the students. If a student is struggling with a problem, I will let them think first, guide them with small things with only giving slight hints, and help them slowly reach to the answer themselves. Instead of just giving the formula or answers, I focus on helping them understand…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to create a supportive environment, encourage curiosity, and build the student’s confidence in their own abilities. A tutor should not just provide answers, but also guide the student in developing problem-solving skills and independent thinking, so they can succeed beyond the tutoring…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage and empower them. I believe most students can learn most subjects/tasks but it's just about finding the way of learning that works for them. I am positive and encouraging. A tutor's job is to build confidence and make learning feel rewarding. That starts with clear explanations, patient encouragement, and adapting to the student's pace. It also means modelling effective study habits and problem-solving strategies, so they can work independently. When students enjoy the process and trust their skills, their results…

Inside CamperdownTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Izzy practiced multiplying decimals by whole numbers and converting between fractions and decimals, also reviewing place value strategies.

In Year 10, Sarah focused on quadratic equations and algebraic skills, alongside poetry analysis of Wilfred Owen using sample English homework tasks.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Liam tackled differentiation techniques—working through turning points on advanced worksheets—and revised logarithms to strengthen calculus foundations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra work revealed "neatness of working out" was lacking, which led to difficulty tracking errors during multi-step equations.

In Year 11 biology, the need for clearer note-taking and updating pathways—especially stimulus-response diagrams—was flagged; when these notes were unclear, recalling details in assessments became harder.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student hesitated to write steps for subtraction problems, even though he could do them mentally ("he needs to be prompted to write down each step of the calculation"). This sometimes left mistakes hidden until review time, costing confidence when corrections were needed under test conditions.

Recent Achievements

One Camperdown tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to avoid asking questions now regularly requests clarification when she's unsure, especially with tricky chemistry titration steps.

A Year 10 student recently managed to sketch a graph independently involving both horizontal and vertical transitions without relying on the table of values—a skill he previously found intimidating.

In primary sessions, Ryan, who once hesitated with multi-step word problems, has started converting these into equations independently and completed most grade 2-level tasks on his own for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Newtown Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newtown North Public School.
