I believe that a good tutor can not only write out the solutions for students but also allow them to understand every process involved in creating the solution, such that they will be able to answer similar questions next time by themselves. A tutor can also communicate their experiences and the techniques used for effective studying. Tutors…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is to provide individualised instruction, as well as a safe and non-judgemental learning environment to student, something that they may not be able to obtain in a normal big-size class with limited time to teach an increasingly information-heavy curriculum. I have been tutoring students…

One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to make students comfortable with learning in the subjects and guide them to keep on track in their studies. It is more about train students to solve problems rather than telling them answers. 1. My knowledge of mathematics would be a strength for me as I have a bachelor degree…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with a good foundation of knowledge so that they can build up and improve their academic result from that. Besides, the tutor is responsible for constantly building confidence so that the student can believe in their abilities to solve tough problems. When they…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to let them learn on their own. I think the best tutors know how to balance their student's learning pace by guiding them only when they have to. This helps the student learn on their own, and, as a result, learn more efficiently. My strength as a tutor is how I communicate concepts. I…

The important thing a tutor can do for a student is to assist students in overcoming their challenges with a patient and empathetic approach. Given students' difficulties at school, tutoring sessions should provide a supportive and stress-free environment. Moreover, each processes information at their own pace. I consider patience and empathy critical in tutors and a deep-seated desire to help the student grow and learn. Additionally, helping the student approach the subject in such a manner that the student's abilities in the subject overall increase, to improve rigour and precision when it comes to mathematics. As a tutor, my job is to help a learner achieve their academic goals and guide them through their academic struggles. It's truly rewarding when you can see how your efforts helped improve a learner's grade on a test or report. Tutoring is very different to a typical classroom setting. Each class is unique and solely focused on the one student. This one-to-one learning experience is something many students wouldn’t normally get in a classroom. Naturally, they’ll be able to ask as many questions as they want. As a result, you’ll feel you’re making a real…

Inside ChulloraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alex worked through addition and subtraction of complex fractions, using step-by-step breakdowns to build confidence.

For Year 10, Sarah tackled box and whisker plots as well as introductory algebra, applying textbook questions to reinforce data analysis skills.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student James focused on trigonometric identities and solving related homework problems, emphasising accurate manipulation of trig expressions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student became distracted and lost focus during algebra graphing tasks, leading to skipped steps and confusion over x- and y-intercepts—"paying attention gets easily distracted" was the tutor's note.

In Year 10, one learner struggled with non-calculator trigonometry, missing cases when solving equations because "she forgets to test cases that aren't always found while working out."

Meanwhile, a senior student in Year 12 rushed through integration problems involving logarithms; errors crept in as timing management slipped, so only half the intended questions were completed. Frustration grew as progress stalled mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A Chullora tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who previously relied on their calculator now confidently tackles complex calculations entirely by hand, a big shift from earlier sessions.

Another high schooler in Year 10, who used to guess when stuck, has started pausing to ask clear questions about probability problems and then explains their reasoning out loud before trying solutions.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who was hesitant with angles last term showed new initiative—she broke down parallel line angle problems herself and double-checked her answers independently before moving on to the next set.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacre Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Greenacre Christian College.
