I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to instil confidence within them as it is a key catalyst in nurturing a drive for learning. If a student is confident, it is more likely that they will engage in classwork with a more positive mindset and will not be afraid to ask questions. Moreover, I think it is important as a…

When I was at school, my favourite teachers were always the relatable ones who were genuinely interested in me, my hobbies and my life. This connection is important for many reasons, not only to be a good tutor but to also be a confidant in times of crisis. In the past I have worked with children who had special needs. Being close to the student…

I believe tutoring is important for students to identify specific issues that may present themselves. In a classroom environment, a teacher may not have the time to identify such problems where as tutoring can do so, especially for English and Mathematics. I believe I am a very enthusiastic and approachable person so students don't feel…

As a tutor, I believe the most important things a teacher could do for their students is making them feel encouraged and secured. Promoting education in today's society is something that should be dominated and put first. In my eyes, a child's education is the first step towards a child's success. Encouraging students and providing them with a…

Identifying a student's weaknesses and strengths not only in a subject but in their general approach to life is very important. Honing strengths and working on weaknesses will allow tutors to tap into a student's potential. Deeply considering how and why a student is performing the way they are is also very important and allows changes to be made.…

The most important things that a tutor must do for students is to always demonstrate patience and love towards them. My greatest asset as a tutor would be my ability to really zone in on any problems a student may have in particular. Also to be highly motivated to impact the greater good which will be…

A tutor is a mentor for his students. For a tutor, it is necessary to have full knowledge of that field he/she is teaching. In most areas, its a misconception that tutors are there to help students in coming first in every aspect related to studies. But that's not true, in my opinion, tutors can only give knowledge of any particular subject/sector…

The most important thing a tutor should do for a student is make them feel good about themselves. If the student develops a mentality where they feel as if they will never be able to learn something, they wont. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to personalise the learning to suit the student's strengths, to work on their weaknesses but highlight strong points to instil confidence. I consider the most important that a tutor can do is able to do is simply a topic or break down said topic into digestible portions such that the student is able to catch onto the content of the work easily and effectively. With a good understanding of the topic and the skills to explain its contents to the student, the tutor ensures that the…

Inside Claremont MeadowsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Danielle worked on Financial Mathematics, focusing on **loan repayments** and the application of simple and compound interest to real-life scenarios.

For Year 11, Sarah practised **integration techniques** using past exam papers, including applying calculus concepts to physical world problems.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jacob focused on advanced trigonometry, revising the **Sine and Cosine rules** through targeted problem-solving exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 and HSC Mathematics, one student often relied on copying rules without truly understanding or applying them—"she needs to copy the rules and memorise them," a tutor observed—which left gaps when tackling unfamiliar exam questions, especially in trigonometry and financial maths.

In upper primary, messy written work and missed units in answers made checking subtraction with trading more difficult; this meant extra time spent fixing small errors rather than moving forward.

Across both stages, late notice of absences and incomplete homework interrupted learning routines and eroded confidence heading into assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Claremont Meadows tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitating to speak up, began asking for clarification on tricky trigonometry questions—something he'd avoided before.

A Year 8 learner showed real independence by catching her own mistake during a statistics exercise and fixing it right away without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to leave times tables unfinished now comes prepared and completes all practice problems confidently at the start of each session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Marys Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Claremont Meadows Public School.
