Business Studies Tutor Glebe, NSW
The most important thing for a tutor to do for a student is providing as much information as they can. Answer their questions, solve their problems, and make sure that they really understand the material. I am a very good listener. When a student is facing difficulty, I believe the problem is communication. Talk to them and try to find out what is…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. There is a difference between doing all the work for the child and actually teaching how the problem can be approached and observing how the student does it him/herself. If the child is stuck on a concept, it is my responsibility to help the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand said student, and adjust their methods accordingly. A tutor can transform a student's life by helping them become more confident in their academic career, which inevitably improves general confidence. Further, a tutor provides mentoring and coaching as experts in their field which a student can carry with them beyond school, ensuring they are set up for success in their chosen field. I believe a…

Someone once told me a great teacher is not a messiah but a guide. As a tutor, I do not gift my mentees the treasure of knowledge but rather act as a guide toward achieving them. I believe the most important thing that a tutor can do for their students in the limited time that they have is to show them how to study on their own and succeed even…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build the student's confidence and give them both the belief and motivation that they can achieve the academic goals that they have set. I believe a good tutor doesn't purely provide answers, but guides students to think for themselves, developing problem solving skills and…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build trust, encourage genuine confidence, and teach students how to learn independently. It's not just about helping them get through one subject or assignment, it's about giving them the skills and self-belief they can carry with them into everything else they do. I think my main strengths…

Building confidence, Simplifying the complex and connecting on a personal level. If a tutor is able to achieve these three, they will find a successful outcome. Empathy is key. If a tutor can show how learning certain topics can help a student in the future, it keeps the student's interest held in the subject for longer. What really helps is to periodically give some positive feedback to the student about their progress - how he or she has improved in the past 3 months, or month, for example. Because of…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen and create a safe space for the student. When tutors don't listen it'll be a waste of time for both parties. This can be very hard because sometimes students may not be able to pinpoint what they don't understand or they might just feel a bit embarrassed. This is where…

A tutor should build trust, listen actively, and empower the student to believe in their abilities. Inside ClovellyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Oliver focused on converting between decimals and fractions as well as simplifying mixed and improper fractions.

For Year 9, Ava worked through compound interest calculations and compared simple versus compound investments using value tables.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jack tackled factorisation methods in algebra along with more complex problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by applying factorisation strategies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tackling trigonometry found multi-step sine and cosine rule questions challenging when working alone; the tutor noted, "he needed guidance to find relevant angles," revealing a struggle to persist through complex problems without support.

In Year 11 Maths, worded income tax and commission problems proved overwhelming—questions with dense text led to missed steps and confusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student's written work remained difficult to follow due to unorganized note-taking in probability tasks: "notes were scattered across the page."

Not putting pen to paper during homework left gaps that made it tough for tutors to pinpoint sources of confusion.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Clovelly noticed a Year 9 student who used to avoid asking for help now openly requests clarification when stuck, especially with factorisation questions—an important shift from silent guessing.

In Year 11, one student recently corrected their own homework errors after carefully reviewing feedback, showing genuine independence that wasn't there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who had struggled with long division earlier in the year has begun explaining solution steps out loud while working through problems and now completes them confidently without guidance. Last session, they finished an entire worksheet alone.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anthony's Catholic Primary School.
