A tutor should focus more on the foundation of the student and focus more on the basics of the subject. Also, corelating the subject with real-life examples could make learning easier and more interesting. I believe I have the right amount of patience required to tutor students. Also, I am open to interactive methods of tutoring and try to be…

I believe the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to make them feel good about themselves. I feel it is essential that they do this through teaching so that the student feels happy when they start to understand and do stuff they were orginally having trouble over. I am a bright and bubbly person. I will never judge people…

Some of the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is ensuring that the student knows the content that has been taught. Also make sure that you are listening to the student and try to minimise their weaknesses and maximise their strengths. As a tutor, my strengths are being confident and only speaking what I know of. I will…

Teaching math or English?! students can get that information from books, the internet, online courses and so many other ways. But things that a crafty and caring tutor would do is to support, understand, and talk, in one word, be there for the student. Being a friend and caring about every student, realising their talent and the ways they…

I belive helping to build confidence is the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student. Confidence in one area can flow into other areas of study/life. A positive and supportive tutor can have influence on a students life in future years of study and life. Patience, understanding, positive attitude, growth mindset,…

I strongly feel as if education is the most important tool for any person, especially in today's world. Therefore to be able to pass on that knowledge is phenomenal. I believe that if one child is educated enough, to have a comfortable life, then the following generation is also automatically able to have a comfortable and sustainable life. A…

I think the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. High school can be a really stressful period for students, not only in the immense pressure that students are under but also with the dramatic shifts their…

I believe an essential aspect to include in tutoring is helping students to develop metacognitive and study skills. In mainstream education, the uniqueness of student learning processes is often neglected. When I tutor students, I highly value teaching the specific study skills that will be most effective for them, imparting not merely content…

One of the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is offer an environment where they can comfortably learn and raise any concerns or questions they might have. This comes from building a good relationship with the student, which often not many tutors do, making the student's learning ineffective. Offering an organised and well…

Naturally, a biology tutor's main priority is to provide profound and thorough knowledge through clear communication. I believe that while this is nuclear to the role, this teaching can only be achieved if the tutor also carries other accompanying qualities. This includes patience and listening, aforementioned, and trust. As a tutor, it is…

Resilience after drawbacks. A good tutor should not only provide one or two solutions limited to a single issue, but also help students establish confidence and motivation, and achieve their goals through dedicated efforts. Being able to explain contents in various ways and relate concepts to tangible life experiences; being able to put myself on…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is not only explain an answer to a student, but actually make sure that they understand how the answer is derived and can do it themselves. There is no point in rote learning something when you can understand how an answer comes to be. As Albert Einstein said, 'Education is not the…

Allowing students to become independent thinkers and restorning their self confidence is one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. This means while you guide them in filling gaps in knowledge and breaking down difficult concepts, the tutor is able to build these fundamental skills in the student. In instilling these skills, I…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is be patient and supportive. Different people learn different things in different ways, and at different rates. A tutor must cater for that, and not skip over important things that students have not yet understood. A tutor must use the method of explaining/teaching that students will understand. I…

From the perspective of a past student who's worked with tutors. I've found the best environment to learn is one that feels inviting and open to questions. I hope I can build such an environment where students do not feel worried about asking questions or use me as a resource to aid their learning. Furthermore, I think it's paramount that a tutor…

Local Reviews

Dealing with EzyMath tutoring was very professional & easy to get started. Our tutor is great. A benefit of being part of the Ezy maths network was the access to resources available to us to help us in-between sessions. My only complaint is that it is expensive, but it helped our son get back on track quickly.

Inside CroydonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ava focused on simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions through targeted worksheets.

For Year 8, Ethan tackled rearranging algebraic formulas and applied index laws using variables to solve more complex expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Sophie worked on solving linear equations and plotting linear graphs by hand, emphasizing the interpretation of gradients and y-intercepts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student repeatedly mixed up which index law to apply and in what order during algebra tasks—she was sometimes unsure of what order to apply each index law in—leading to extra time spent retracing steps.

In Year 8, a learner struggled to break down multi-step linear equations without guidance, hesitating over which operation came next, especially with fractions nested within other fractions.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student faced delays when dividing large numbers due to slow recall of times tables; moments dragged as she tried different combinations on scrap paper. This lack of fluency often left her pressed for time by the end of sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Croydon tutor noticed Paddy finally starting to recall and use the correct rules for negative and positive multiplication—something he'd been mixing up in previous sessions.

In another recent session, Lara managed to explain her process out loud for rearranging algebraic equations as she solved them, a big step from when she hesitated to show her thinking.

For a younger student, Lily, who used to freeze with long division, confidently tackled problems with decimals this week and explained how each step worked before moving on to the next question independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Croydon Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Croydon Primary School.
