The most important thing a tutor can do is inspire and incite passion around learning. If the student knows the outcome of what's being taught and enjoys the process of learning, then it is much easier for the student to build on their own knowledge independently in the future. I believe I can create excitement around topics and show students how…

As a tutor, I always ensure to make students feel comfortable so that they can ask me questions during the lesson by having general conversations and try to be friends with them rather than being a…

The primary reason why a student may hire a tutor is to give them the in-depth understanding of "Why" the concept is the way it hence. Hence, explaining them the core concept, which enables them to solve the problems during their exams and assignments without having any second doubts. Additionally, as a part of tutor, it is my responsibility to…

I will patiently listen, engage and encourage my student, and help them depending on their different needs. Being 100% committed and enthusiastic is also crucial as a tutor. My dedication and passion for helping others is…

I would say a tutors' ultimate goal would be to get in sync with the way the student is taught in their respective schools, colleges or universities. Additionally, it is extremely important to make friends with the students, as this is necessary for proper engagement. I am not afraid to do some research when it comes to getting a student to…

To be there as a support structure, not just a tutor that's only available during the assigned time. A tutor is really another support avenue for a student's education is what I've found in my experience as both a tutor and a student frequenting tutors. Another key aspect of a tutor is to be able to not only build the knowledge of the student…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is to first understand the student’s strengths and their learning style. Once you know this you can tailor the tutoring style towards these strengths so that they are getting the most out of their experience and they can understand the content in a way that clicks for them. Another…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be dedicated and committed to what they are doing. Build a space where a student feels comfortable saying "I don't understand", and then receiving their issues with patience and understanding. It's important they feel confident enough to ask questions, and not shamed for having them. Explaining something multiple times and then trying a new way of explanation, exploring new ways of teaching, is a…

The most important thing I believe a tutor can do for a student is to understand them and see their weakness and strengths and utilise this in their teachings. There is no one blanket method of teaching. My strength as a tutor is that treating each student individually and ensuring to demonstrate the topics in variety of way as each student learns…

Personally, i believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to work with them according to EACH specific student. From personal experience, I know that not every child absorbs information or learns the same way, some may take longer, or perhaps require a different method. I think it is vital for tutors to recognise this and…

Two things: One: Listening and observing. Sometimes in tutoring you focus so much on the schoolwork and learning and bypass the learning experience. Being keen and observing the student\'s behaviour, mode of communication, body language etc, you can meet them at their level and once they feel understood, not looked down on and safe, then they are…

Teaching a student to love learning is one of the most important things I can do as a tutor. A student who is genuinely curious and motivated will always achieve better results than one who feels forced to study every day. Beyond building a love of learning, I also believe in building a student's confidence and helping them trust in their own…

I have been using Ezy maths from the past three years now. Even though moving houses was a challenge but my sons tutoring needs were well taken care of and he had a smooth transit with his tutor. The tutor Mandeep singh is fantastic and always goes an extra mile with my son!!! I will surely recommend the company.

Inside DoreenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ava focused on simplifying and adding surds, then applied her skills to multiplying surds for area calculations.

Year 9 student Liam worked through rationalising denominators with surds and using fractional indices, as well as solving linear equations and interpreting straight line graphs.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student tackled subtraction, addition, and multiplication questions in preparation for NAPLAN numeracy, along with practising long division and timetables using school worksheets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, he skips over steps instead of slowly working through them, making it hard to spot where small calculation errors occur.

A Year 10 student was reminded that relying on a calculator for multiplication and division masked gaps in mental arithmetic; this showed up when classwork required speed without aids.

During VCE preparation, one student's incomplete revision booklet meant missing exposure to unfamiliar question types—on practice tests, this led to hesitation and lost marks.

In English (Year 7), difficulty organising essay drafts resulted in scattered ideas, making it tough to translate thoughts clearly onto the page.

Recent Achievements

One Doreen tutor noticed a big change in a Year 9 student who used to freeze up at factorisation but, after some focused practice, began recognising patterns and using the common method without hesitation—she even asked for extra examples.

In Year 11 maths, another student who'd struggled with logarithms was able to tackle extension questions independently once he grasped the basics, surprising himself by explaining his process out loud.

Meanwhile, a younger primary learner who always avoided times tables started organising her worksheets neatly and handed in all her homework on time for the first week ever.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mernda Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Plenty Valley Christian College.
