A tutor can be a guiding light for students. Each student has their own way of absorbing the information that they are taught. This might not always be available to students in a large classroom setting. A good tutor recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of the students and guides them accordingly. I spent most of my adult life abroad as a…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is guide that student to success, this can be achieved by listening and being attentive to the childs learning styles and needs. Patience and understanding. I believe that patience is one of the most important qualities to have as a tutor, this is because it can be very frustrating as a…

To me, the most important thing a tutor can do is to foster a supportive and positive learning environment. This is because it is important to create a safe and encouraging space where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and improvements. It is also important for the tutor to tailor the teaching approach to each individual…

I think the most important things as a tutor are designing a personal learning plan for each student; patient to everyone who has difficulties in learning; willing to share my own experience to help them to build self-confidence; treating students as individuals and helping each to achieve their full potential. Tutors needs to deliver their fullest in educating the student. I would consider a connection to (and understanding of) the student to be the most important thing for a one on one tutoring relationship. Without a thorough understanding of their needs and situation, one cannot properly assess the best way to assist in their learning. a tutor first needs to understand the capability of the student considering all the strengths and weakness and work on it. Only just transforming knowledge will not help the child grow but instead develop a liking for that particular subject will make that child understand it more easily. A tutor should be able to communicate clearly with a student. It is important for a tutor to be patient with a student as different students learn at different paces. Give moral support and guidance. As a tutor, I don't give answers or solve the student's work, I want them to be able to solve it themselves and use their critical thinking skills with their knowledge of subject content. Inside ErindaleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack worked through multiplication strategies and early decimal concepts using visual aids to strengthen understanding.

In Year 11, Maya focused on solving quadratic equations and interpreting their graphs, building skills for upcoming assessment tasks.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Alex practiced exam-style questions involving complex numbers and began revising composition of functions in preparation for next term's topics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student often avoided showing working for subtraction and multiplication, especially with times tables above 5x. "He hesitated to attempt harder multiplications," a tutor observed, which meant money problems and fractions felt overwhelming in the moment.

At the senior level, a Year 11 student missed a lesson entirely, causing gaps when starting new algebra content; test preparation was rushed as a result.

In another case, a Year 10 student tended to forget to write full answers ("Forgetting to add +c" in calculus), which led to marks lost despite understanding the method.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Erindale recently noticed some real progress with a few students. One high school student who used to struggle with integration felt much stronger during their latest session and even reported that their most recent integration test was probably their best yet.

Another secondary student, previously hesitant to ask for clarification, has started to openly discuss mistakes on practice questions, making it easier to address gaps together.

In the primary years, Aryo—who often got distracted—has begun working through his homework more independently and even remembered to bring it along without reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burnside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peter's Collegiate Girls' School.
