What a tutor should and need to do are guiding a child to enhance their strengths and improve their weaknesses with all of the power invested in ourselves; reminding and figuring out what their barriers are to success (such as are they afraid of they can't pass? or they are not receiving any support from their beloved ones?). In my power, I'd do…

Effective methods of studying, instead of encouraging them to spend too much time and get stressed of the massive load of knowledge. It is so much better if a tutor and teach them how to manage their time and work, how to remember the key concepts and apply them to do the real work. I have good communication skills with students which helps me to…

By fostering a supportive atmosphere where students feel relaxed and enthusiastic about their studies, you help them build confidence and develop a positive attitude…

Build a healthy relationship with student and help them build a healthy relationship with learning in general so they don't dread showing up to class/tutor feeling like they don't belong. It is also crucial that they believe in themselves and sustain a growth and open mindset when approaching studying. I feel like THE most important concept…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for the student is to make them feel confident within their learning space, to boost their self esteem and help them come to the understanding that they can do anything that they put the effort into. By helping them obtain this confidence, tutoring becomes the act of tackling a certain…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is create lessons around a student's skillset and ability. If they are struggling with a certain topic, I like to focus my attention on this area in my lesson so they may be able to get a better understanding. I believe one of my strengths is being able to explain a concept in different ways so that…

One of the most damaging things one can do as a tutor is establish a blind hierarchy with their student. A tutor does not impart facts and knowledge, he or she attempts to come, along with the student, to a mutual understanding of a concept and I find that much more constructive if you approach this from a peer perspective rather than an…

Tutor, for me, is not only a teaching career where you come in, provide the lesson and knowledge. Tutoring is a great process where tutor and students can interact and learn from each other. Furthermore, I believe that tutoring also means supporting students' learning. Supporting, in this case, is not only about aiding students with their learning…

Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. A tutor should also be patient in order to make the student feel welcomed whenever they are in a predicament academically. Other than that, a tutor should be friendly so the students feel…

A tutor's role gets more prominent when s/he tries to enable the learner to understand the language and use the language in the real world. Put it simply, the learner should be enabled to understand English, analyse it, speak it and more importantly use the English functions in the right place. For instance, in sessions with learners, I will…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help the student develop interest for the subject. Once the student is throughly interested in the subject, he/she starts to explore on their own. After that the tutor just needs to guide the student in the correct path and occasionally help with difficult problems. However this is not an easy task.…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence. When students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, they're much more willing to learn. A great tutor also adapts their teaching style to each student and helps them develop problem-solving skills, rather than just memorising answers. Good…

I attended many tutoring facilities during my time at school hence I have learnt the most valuable things a tutor can offer to a student is the patience and a change to be able to complete the work themselves, which giving them a few hints to get them on the right track. or if they're completely stuck to give a detailed explanation of the…

My approach is to pinpoint their strengths, address any gaps, and equip them with…

It was incredibly easy to get started with EzyMath Tutoring. A couple of clicks, a phone call and we were in business! My son's tutor is great - he is showing my son lots of alternative strategies and is highlighting areas for practice before their next session. I know measurable results will take time but we are happy with the progress thus far. And, more importantly, my son is feeling more confident and engaged in math class.

Inside Essendon NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aiden worked through converting fractions to decimals and solving percentage problems, focusing on clear step-by-step calculations.

In Year 11, Ethan tackled linear motion and gravitational motion in Physics, including rearranging formulae to solve for unknowns.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Lara concentrated on Special Relativity concepts in Physics and practiced applying electromagnetic induction principles to real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12 Physics and Maths, one student repeatedly relied on formula sheets for even basic questions and struggled to connect formulas with real-world meanings. "He still just sees a formula as the thing you use to plug values in," a tutor noted after an interest rate problem, leading to confusion when unfamiliar wording appeared.

In Year 10, missing or jumbled working steps caused errors—skipping writing out calculations led to lost numbers during matrix problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's tendency to sprawl working across the page resulted in confusion mid-way through multi-step perimeter tasks; details were missed or units mixed up.

Recent Achievements

One Essendon North tutoring session saw a high school student, Alex, who previously struggled to identify which formulas to use in finance and matrix problems, now tackling complex questions independently and rarely making calculation errors.

Another win came when Matthew, also in high school, showed real initiative by completing extra work on amortisation tables—something he'd found confusing before—and could explain the difference between nominal and effective interest rates without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ella in Year 6 moved from hesitating over worded inequality problems to confidently solving them after working through a hands-on example with pencils and pens.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moonee Valley Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Essendon North Primary School.
