The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to find the strengths and weaknesses of the student, so that they know how to customise the learning material for the student, and to track their learning progress in each lessons, by giving them feedback on what should be improved and what part should be appreciated of. It takes me years to…

In my view, the paramount role of a tutor is to cultivate a learning environment filled with patience and empathy. By recognising the challenges students may encounter along their learning journey and demonstrating empathy towards these obstacles, a positive and supportive environment is created between the student and tutor. This allows me to…

There are few important things a tutor can do their students: -Transfer their extensive knowledge onto their students so they can solve their academic problems. - Be patient and calm, even if they have to repeat something 100 times, they have to make sure that the student is clear about the problem. -Build relationships so that student…

The most important things a tutor can do is provide a support network and assistance for the students both in and outside of academics. With students, a tutor should not only be considered a teacher but also a friend who they can inquire about topics and issues which a tutor has already experienced and can be an assistance of. My strengths are a…

There could by many reasons why students come to tutoring: they're struggling to keep up, they want to excel or simply their parents want them to go. No matter the reason, what I think is most important for a tutor to do is to try and make the students actually interested in the content in front of them and then aid them as they grapple with it.…

The skill of empathy towards a student is possibly one of the most important things a tutor should be equipped with, in that they need to recognise that while you're an expert on the material, the student is learning it for the first time. Thus, tutors like myself need to be able to present concepts that the student can understand, i.e., using…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them the confidence and strategies to tackle problems even when you, as a tutor, are not there. I do this by offering skills and strategies rather than answers, and allowing students to have a go at a problem themselves before stepping in. As well as skills, confidence is…

The most important thing is truly caring about the student's needs and not just delivering the content so that whatever needs to be taught is "taught". It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. This means not only continuing teaching the student but also means that the tutor should always believe a student can improve with their guidance. In addition, it is essential for a tutor to be able to learn the student's strengths and weaknesses and their way of thinking, so the…

I think a tutor has to be such kind of person who can unwillingly be able to establish himself/ herself as a role model to follow which will guarantee the success of the the student in the future. Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. Learning can be spilt into 3 parts. First being simply understanding the content without worrying about exams. Second being revising and coming up questions possible from the content and getting a deeper understanding. Third is looking at the exam questions and how to form the answer to get maximum marks. Inside Five DockTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Charlotte worked through trigonometry and measurement problems, including Pythagoras' theorem and calculating area and volume for her upcoming exam.

Year 10 student Angelique revised expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as tackled percentage-based problem solving to prepare for half-yearly assessments.

Meanwhile, Year 5 student Blake focused on narrative planning exercises before writing a short story using his plan, also practicing reading comprehension with summary questions from short texts.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student's working out was difficult to follow—steps weren't clearly shown, which made it hard for the marker to understand her process and spot where errors occurred. "She knows how to answer the questions, it is just about showing the marker how she got to her answer," a tutor observed after reviewing algebra exercises.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 English, homework completion has become inconsistent; missing weekly tasks led to gaps in reading comprehension practice.

During a timed selective school writing task in Year 7, another student lost focus mid-way and left several sections unfinished—confidence seemed to dip when challenged by unfamiliar prompts.

Recent Achievements

One Five Dock tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with calculus now confidently working through differentiation problems, clearly showing each step and explaining how she tested the nature of stationary points.

In English, a Year 10 boy recently submitted his creative writing on *Of Mice and Men*—not only did he capture the novel's style, but for the first time handed in his draft on time after weeks of late submissions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once hesitated to ask for help during reading tasks is now referring back to her book whenever unsure, summarising key events accurately without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Five Dock Public School.
