A tutor can show students how challenging questions are done and prepare them well for their exams/tests. Plus, encourage them to put in their full potential to score well in exams. I am free to explain any concept, numerous times until the student has really understood. My job is to make sure they know what they are actually doing. I try to give…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is inspiring them into studying. This is done by helping them understand the knowledge and get used to solving problems that they feel confident rather than daunting towards the subject. My strength as a tutor is tailoring my students' speed and ability. I usually ask about their…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient with each student. Every student has a different starting point and pace, and as tutors, we need to understand this and accommodate for each student. I believe that a strength I have as a tutor is my personal experience, as was recently a high school graduate. This allows me to…

According to me, a tutor should first of all make the student realise that whatever he is going to teach is not hard but its very easy and try to make the concept simple that students who are weak in studies also understands it quickly. I have a friendly nature and try to make myself always available for my students. Even after clearing the…

In my opinion the most important thing a teacher can do for a Student is to make a Educational related understanding with the student. As in my case I make sure the student clear his idea and he/she is not shy to ask more questions. I take tutoring as my Passion so I do not move to the next idea/topic if my student did not understand the previous…

Ensuring that they grasp the knowledge taught is the most crucial thing for me. If they are able to teach it to others, I feel that I have done my job as a tutor. I think it is important for the tutor to influence the student to be more enthusiastic towards his studies. It is easier to learn stuff with focus and the right attitude. The tutor has to try and make sessions interesting. Also, at the end of the day, the student must not be dependent on the tutor. As a tutor, you know you have succeeded when once…

In the context of Science and Mathematics, the key aspect is HOW to think. Science requires imagination, innovation as well as an excellent recall and grasp of modern scientific understanding. Mathematics, being a tool - requires the students to be well-equipped with the basic mathematical tools. To directly answer this question; a tutor must…

It is most important for a tutor to engage with the student, so that they will be more inclined to be attentive and take the lessons seriously. It is also neccesary to make the neccesary preperations required for the student, e.g background research for foreign topics/ or remodled questions, to suit the student's needs and allow for efficient…

Inside GladesvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 Imogen practised working with fractions and decimals, focusing on converting between the two using visual models.

Year 8 Amber tackled expanding brackets and factorising algebraic expressions, moving from guided examples to independent practice.

Meanwhile, Year 9 Immogen explored surds by simplifying expressions and applying multiplication and division rules for irrational numbers.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student frequently solved algebraic problems in his head without setting out step-by-step working, as one tutor noted: "he tends to work out the answers in his head instead of writing out his working out." This led to confusion when expanding brackets and caused sign errors to go unnoticed.

In a Year 4 English session, another student hesitated when distinguishing between explanation and evidence while reading a challenging text—extra time was needed just to break down the structure.

The absence of written strategies or structured planning meant both students spent valuable lesson time retracing their steps rather than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Gladesville recently noticed a big shift with one Year 8 student who, after struggling to show working for complex algebra questions, now consistently sets out each step clearly and catches his own errors.

In Year 10 science, Amber was able to work through most chemical reaction problems on her own during the session—a big change from earlier lessons where she hesitated to try without guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who used to make frequent mistakes with rounding now reliably remembers the "round up at five" rule and completed her times tables worksheet with full accuracy.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gladesville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gladesville Public School.
